He played well last night the main issue with his game has been decision making in the past and making the right moves as he's technically a sound footballer.

Hopefully last nights run out will give him the confidence to take those sort of performances into the league.

The ideal signing was one who came ready made. I'm hearing we tried and failed in moves for Remy, Falcao, Benzema, Cavani & Higuain. For differing reasons. But Mario wasn't first choice and he was a gamble. But it's one we have to play out now.

I wouldn't play him as a lone striker, I'd play Sterling up top with him and Coutinho behind them.

When Sturridge comes back it could all change to 4-3-3 or play 4-1-2-1-2 with Ballotelli up top with him.

Borini did well at Sunderland on his own up front at times so he can do it. However I tend to agree that as we need to win games he would not be a good choice for us in that role.
That's why I find the signings of Lallana and Markovic a bit odd, and Balotelli to a certain extent. We've signed wingers, and we are insisting on playing Sterling wide, to service lone strikers that don't want to play as lone strikers. I can understand if Rodgers' preferred formation is 4-3-3 or a variation of it, but it hasn't really worked so far. We have plenty of options all through the team but nothing seems to be working particularly effectively no matter what we try.

I just watched the first half having missed it due to a dodgy stream last night. Borini, Coutinho and Manquillo were most lively and looking to make something happen. Borini looked really sharp. Deserves a start against Newcastle

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet admits he would leap at the chance to take Liverpool striker Fabio Borini back to the Stadium of Light.

The striker was on loan at Sunderland last season and scored seven goals for the club, but an expected permanent transfer collapsed over the summer.

Borini was left out of Brendan Rodgers' squad to face Poyet's side on Saturday, a game which ended 0-0, and Poyet was later asked if we would be interested in signing him in January.

"I would love to," he said before attempting to address the collapse of the transfer.

"It is difficult to explain. It was a long summer and the things everyone knows, we agreed a price and we flew to America (for Liverpool's pre-season tour) and he didn't come.

Gus Poyet feels his side missed a great opportunity to win at Anfield
"The bottom line is he is not with us. I am trying to concentrate on what we have got."

Only Aston Villa and Burnley have scored fewer goals at home than Liverpool's seven and Rodgers' decision to leave Borini out of the squad was questioned after the goalless draw.

But the Liverpool manager refused to explain the omission, which meant he had no striker on the bench after starting Rickie Lambert in attack.

"That is a decision I make as a manager," Rodgers said.

To be fair he signed him worked out he wasn't working and has been trying to get rid of him.

To be fair 18 appearances is hardly giving the player a chance, more like Rodgers is poor at Transfers

18 games!!! You only had to watch him in 1 game to realise he was balls

I love the way people still say Borini should play because he shows great movement. Can't kick a ball or pass but shows great movement

Steve Cram use to show decent movement and can't kick a ball for ****e either

Funny how he only worked out he wouldnt work after paying 12m for him. Had him at Chelsea and Swansea so he should have known. Apparently he was going to excite the fans though. Give that man Rodgers an open chequebook. Know's his stuff

Would you apply the same logic to Balotelli?

I've not said either way; seems to me you apply certain logic to situations you should be consistent.

With regards Borini I don't rate him and I think it's clear we tried to offload, Balotelli has more to offer than he's shown but at present he's not been good enough either.

I'm more than happy to be critical of Rodgers of which I have been but perhaps a little more enlightened than to call things ****, **** **** etc...
