He's a good 4th choice squad player, unfortunately so is Lambert and so is Balotelli

He gets in the positions. He just can't deliver. Whether it be a dribble, pass or shot. At a lesser team he'd get more space in the opposition box and his flaws would stand out less.

Works hard though and helps the team in ways other forwards we have can't.
      Forwards.......

Great first touch finish. Hope he builds on this.

Would keep him as a back up option

The problem we have is that Borini is somewhat technically lacking but puts in the effort, Balotelli has more technical ability but is really lazy. Given the choice between the two I would go with Borini, but neither are ideal.

Technically, used in its correct form he's actually not a bad player and he has a decent technique however he does have issues in his game but they're mostly down to awareness and decision making .

If this guy is technically poor goodness knows what Dirk Kuyt was then !

I'm not saying he's a bad player, maybe technically lacking is harsh or incorrect wording on my part, but I don't think he offers enough even when he is at his best. Making comparisons with Kuyt is fair enough Kuyt was judged not to be good enough to play regularly as a striker for us and only played the role when necessary. I feel the same way about Borini.

As I said at the moment for me he is our best option but long term I don't see him coming close to competing with Sturridge.

Kuyt had intelligence as well as effort. Also coolness personified, never let the big games get to him. Frustrated me massively at times, but he was a big player for us.

Kuyt was 26 when he joined us and far more experienced than Borini.

I don't think Borini will make it with us, and I don't think he is much more than average to decent at best, but he does seem to be a player that becomes a Kuyt-like player (in terms of important goals and providing workrate) when given sustained runs in a team. At Swansea, Roma, and Sunderland he was given runs in the first team (some were short runs some were longer) and he proved useful enough for those teams so he may have something to him but he looks to be a player that needs time to settle into a team.

Between now and the summer I would not mind seeing him start our games until Sturridge is ready to return, and then being the striker that gets subbed on when either Sturridge needs a rest or two strikers are needed on the pitch.

very athletic, a willing runner. good for pressing the opposition when we dont have the ball, but often a little headless and lacking control when we do get it.
he seems better and throwing himself on the end of something from another player than doing his own running with the ball.

atm a better option than mario the magnificent.

One thing that he does do is force a marker to go with him. That is something that Balotelli has rarely done for us.

A number of times against Villa he took off on a diagonal and pulled an extra marker with him. Noticed Coutinho in particular driving on into the space that was created.

its true, he is clever without the ball, but seems to flap when he has to run with it.
he seems to be ok of the ball zips to him and he has to just hit it on instinct, but if he has time it all turns to jelly.

is there such a thing as footballophobia

I've said this for about 18 months now, I'm more than happy to keep Borini, more than happy with him as a squad player.
Not every single player can be a superstar, Borini works his nuts off every single chance he gets, he doesn't moan, doesn't kick off in the press or through his agent when not selected he gets his head down and works.

I'm baffled that someone with a great work ethic, good attitude, happy to be part of the squad gets so much stick.
No one is expecting him to keep Sturridge out the side when he's back fit and available, but in the mean time he's a better option than Balotelli and miles better than Lambert because he suits how we play, suits the high pressing and fluid attacking play.
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

i think borini would do ok playing with lambert, but imho we mistakenly play lambert as a front man when we'd do much better playing borini up top, doing more of the pressing, making the space. then lambert can sit deeper and step into the available space or to collect the second ball.

with the other lively players around them and running wide we should be ripping teams apart.

Didn't make the squad again today.

Wonder what he's thinking now about his decision to stay here.
