I think he is hugely overvalued. He hasn't scored many goals in his career and he is injury prone

Based on his career stats to date, he's managed a goal and an assist every 5 games or so. Good for about 8 & 7 per season on average based on 40 appearances.

He's on an upward curve as well, and at 23 years of age I wouldn't have any issues with signing him in the £10-15m bracket considering his productivity, familiarity with our playing style and the fact that he'd be happy investing his prime years with us considering he's a fan.

Is he worth the £100k a week he supposedly wants? I don't think his current productivity is worth those kinds of wages (and neither do Arsenal it seems). When we're looking at cutting back our wage bill I can't see us signing someone like Walcott whose wages don't represent value for money.

Besides, we really don't know how these things are structured - but I will bet my house that the contract won't end up being a flat basic wherever he ends up.

For example, I don't think £70k + bonuses would be unreasonable for him. With his signing on fee and performance bonuses, the figure would probably come out at around £100k pw.

I try not to get hung up about this stuff now because there's really no point - if we sign someone who can obviously add to the team then that's great in my book. I can't be doing getting stressed any more over something that we won't ever find out the truth about anyway (unless he's JAR )

Now that suggests to me that he has progressed and therefore will quite easily cost eight figures and to me makes sense, especially with the way that fees have gone over the last few seasons. I wouldn't see anything wrong with a figure of between £10 and £15m for him. The £100k a week, well I'd have to agree with you there.

True but the fee will come down to how much Arsenal think they can keep him if they let the transfer window go by and then how much we want him, if of course we do want him and Arsenal are willing to sell due to him having only one year left on his contract.

I think things have changed slightly with regards to how much players are worth when they only have one year left on their contracts. I think clubs are more willing to gamble these days.

As for the wages, well no Premiership footballers wages are going to be sensible.

Theo Walcott could leave Arsenal this week after rejecting contract extension

Arsenal are preparing to negotiate the possible sale of Theo Walcott to Manchester City or Liverpool after he rejected the club’s offer of a new contract.
The Times has learned that Walcott and his representatives informed Arsenal over the weekend of their decision to reject a lucrative extension to his contract, which expires next summer. Discussions between club and player resumed on Tuesday, but unless an agreement is reached imminently the London club will look to sell the England winger to City or Liverpool before Friday’s transfer deadline.
Arsenal hope to raise at least £15 million by selling Walcott, who would otherwise be available on a free transfer next summer, and are willing to negotiate with City, whose £6.2 million move for Scott Sinclair is on hold. Roberto Mancini, the City manager, is eager to sign Walcott as he looks to add more pace and width to his forward line, while Chelsea and Liverpool have also been monitoring the Arsenal player’s availability in recent months.
The loss of Walcott would represent another bitter blow to Arsène Wenger, the Arsenal manager, who said last Friday that the winger is “very important” to the club’s future. Having sold Robin van Persie to Manchester United last summer, after the departures of Cesc Fàbregas and Samir Nasri, Wenger was keen to tie Walcott to a new contract, but the player was unwilling to accept the improved terms on offer amid doubts about their ambition and prospects.
