Surprised that some people wont believe that someone could use an ambiguous phrase in order to racially abuse someone, in the knowledge that phrase is usually used in a perfectly innocent way as a rule, and that it would give them a perfectly plausible excuse should they need one.
Not saying it happened, but to infer it's stupid to even consider it, is a tad naive imo.

Thinking about this a bit more, if Clattenberg did say some kind of offensive racial slur why did the Chelsea players not do something there and then. Like walk off? Or talk to their Manager at least? It was in their interests to cause a disruption following the sendings off so I am not sure I believe them tbh."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

Personally, I just can't see that Clattenburg would be stupid enough to racially abuse a player. Especially when he's microphoned up - it might not have been recorded, but his assistants will have heard exactly what was said.
On the subjects of refs though - that picture of Fergson and Di Matteo either side of that guy is absolutely disgraceful. Football absolutely should take a leaf out of rugby's book. That just would not be tolerated. You know, refs might actually get a few more decisions right if they weren't being screamed at every 5 seconds.
I hate the way players berate referees. It's a stain on the game in my opinion. The captains and relevant players should be the only ones who are allowed to speak to a ref at any one time.K ris90210

this is exactly why the refs and lino's mike should be taped to prevent any such incidents as this, or the chat between the ref and lino saying something like; that was suarez, are you sure that wasnt off side...Originally posted by kris90210 View Post.

It could be taped, of course, but this is the first incident of it's kind I can think of? I guess there was the Graham Poll thing as well.Originally posted by baitman View Postthis is exactly why the refs and lino's mike should be taped to prevent any such incidents as this, or the chat between the ref and lino saying something like; that was suarez, are you sure that wasnt off side...
If it transpires that the Chelsea players have made this up - and that's a big if - **** me, they should have the book thrown at them big time.K ris90210

of this kind, yeh, but knowing they will be being taped it might make some of the gobby players back off the ref a little more, so helping to prevent the ref being subtly manipulated.Originally posted by kris90210 View PostIt could be taped, of course, but this is the first incident of it's kind I can think of? and if the chavs have made this up, the proof would be there.removing all the weak links makes us stronger

Clattenburg isn't all bad:
"In 2007 Clattenburg's judgment had been called, similarly, into question when, during a Merseyside derby, he seemed poised to issue Everton's Tony Hibbert with a yellow card before producing a red following a brief discussion with Liverpool's Steven Gerrard. Later in the game he failed to dismiss Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt for a two-footed waist-high lunge. He did not take charge of another match involving Everton until earlier this year and has yet to reappear at Goodison Park."

I'd guess it's going to be borderline rather than clear cut, if it was outright racial abuse wouldn't they have lodged a police complaint? Or would this be included along with the other silly 'football family' rules whereby everything has to be kept inhouse?
If its that's the case - that it's outright racial abuse - then I don't see why they wouldn't have to refer it to the police?Hello mert.
