The FA have already established precedents for these instances and they have to be seen to be consistent. This is all very interesting anyway.
    Not really

Suarez admitted using the words and Terry was caught on camera utterring the phrase

Clattenburgs appears to be strictly the officials word aagainst Chelseas - unless anything new has come to light in the last 1 hour or so

Did Suarez admit to using the words about 30-odd times, or whatever it was?
      Oh I don't know.

The FA are in a corner here, and I don't think its necessarily of their making. Say there is a simple explanation, the ref and assistants all report saying/hearing clattenburg say Mikel was being a nagger, and no evidence to the contrary emerges. Most people would probably think 'fair enough, that was an unfortunate misunderstanding from the Brazilian guys that caused a storm in a teacup'. But the rent a racism quote brigade won't. They won't accept any explanation at all that doesn't involve racism and the FA letting black players down etc. The whole situation is poisonous whichever way you look at it.

So the Met are definitely investigating now, and the FA will continue their own investigation in tandem.

Mark Clattenburg: Police probe referee after Chelsea claims

The Metropolitan Police has started an investigation into alleged comments by referee Mark Clattenburg towards Chelsea players during Manchester United's 3-2 win on Sunday.

A Football Association investigation, launched after a complaint by Chelsea, will continue. Chelsea accused Clattenburg of using "inappropriate language" including racial words towards two players. Neither Chelsea or the FA made the police complaint. Peter Herbert, the lawyer behind the potential black players' breakaway union, earlier revealed he made a written complaint to the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS).

The Press Association reports that Clattenburg will formally deny the allegations. "The MPS has not received any complaint from either Chelsea Football Club or the Football Association," read a Metropolitan Police statement. "We continue to work in partnership with Chelsea and the Football Association in order to consider any allegation that is made in relation to the reported events."

Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Gordon Taylor welcomed the FA's refusal to halt its own investigation following the police announcement. "That is music to my ears, the news I wanted to hear," said Taylor. "We have the ability to deal with these issues rather than the elongation of a process which is no good to anyone."

Chelsea finished the match at Stamford Bridge with nine men after Branislav Ivanovic and Fernando Torres were sent off in the space of five minutes, with the latter's second yellow card for diving disputed by Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo. Durham-based Clattenburg has not been picked to officiate at a match this weekend. The 37-year-old is viewed by the Professional Game Match Officials, the referees' organisation, as one of the leading officials in the country. He regularly referees games in European competitions and was put in charge of the League Cup final in February and the Olympic final between Brazil and Mexico in August.

Shouldn't the FA put their inquiry on hold until police proceedings are completed?

Fairly sure there's a precedent for that.

Well ignoring the Suarez incident taking forever without the police being involved (and we should ignore that because he's a foreigner who doesn't matter), they're saying that they've learned from the Terry incident that these things don't need to drag on.

Just another small example of their staggering incompetence isn't it?

i don't think there are any proceedings as such. If the police decide they want to charge him then the FA will likely put their investigation on hold.

Horrible ****ing club that. Their attitude was only going to get worse when they became European champions. I'd love to have heard that the ref chinned JT out of his room.

Either way it seems that Chelsea or the FA are going to look like complete cunts after this. I can't stand Chelsea, but I ****ing hate the FA after the way they treated Suarez.

                        Neil Warnock's had his say:

Leeds manager Neil Warnock has blasted Chelsea's decision to file a complaint against referee Mark Clattenburg - and claimed it was a poisonous case of sour grapes.

The European champions have accused the 37-year-old official of using "inappropriate language" to two of their players, Juan Mata and John Obi Mikel, during the stormy game at Stamford Bridge. The Metropolitan Police are now investigating the matter.

Warnock doubts whether a complaint would have been made had Chelsea won the game.

Warnock raged: "I'm disgusted at what has gone on. I am on Mark Clattenburg's side.

"We ask referees to deal with it and man-manage and that's what he does, Clattenburg. If Chelsea had won that game there would not have been one iota of a complaint.

"If it is proved wrong whatever Chelsea players alleged that Mark said, I hope they get done. Would it have happened if they won the game? I don't think it would have done."

Dodgy as **** this if you ask me. Sounds like some chav cunt using the racist tag to get back at the ref for ****ing them over in the game.

Warnock is obviously a tit and is talking without any knowledge.

From an equally ignorant stand point, I suspect that Ramirez and Luis misheard something and convinced themselves they had heard a racist term. The rest of the reaction was just thuggery, thuggery justified in their own minds partly by the righteous reaction to recent events. A bit of popular vigilantism

Could be completely wrong of course. clattenburg might just be a racist prick.

Wonder What Roman will do? He can't be best pleased seeing his employees act like that? If it was my club i would be wanting someones head for that reaction and like Ken said vigilantism.

If JT has gone out of his way to get involved if i was Roman he would be the first to be ****ed off after what has just happened with him.

clattenberg must know he has to be super squeaky clean, and that the lino's and 4th official will pick up anything said.

this stinks, and will show those plastic flag waving cunts for what they are.

it wasnt so long ago that the chavs were saying that they will sack anyone for any racist issues... lets see, eh...
