Tex looks a more versatile player to me, I'm sure we could stick him on a wing

If he signs a new contract it will be because he has no ambition.

We need wide players not more number 10's
He's 22 but players develop at different speeds. He had long spells out as a kid so he is way behind others of his age development wise, but also means he'll likely not burn out as quickly as others.

I certainly wouldn't complain if he started league games for us based on that performance, didn't put a foot wrong as others have said.
      Forwards.......

Anyway, he looked decent. Should get him signed. Long-term he may be crowded out, but he could be useful in the short-term and from there, who knows.
Agreed. And if he stays and does okay, we can sell him for a decent fee if he doesn't quite make it. It's a deal that makes sense IMO as long as the wage offered is suitable.

Pretty sure the reason he was left out was to do with filling our home grown quota for the European squad. He was signed at 18 so he didn't qualify as a home grown player.

I imagine he will be on the bench, but I hope he will start getting some minutes. I think he should be looking to displace Lallana from the side.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think it's a real shame Klopp's predecessor didn't give Tex chances this season, he should have been in the EL squad and this makes me wonder about the players he loaned out like Ilori and Markovic.
              * The above is posted in my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

Even if he doesn't have a future here, & I think he could, we need to be selling players not letting them walk away for free.

You have to be sure someone wants to pay a fee though otherwise we are left with a player on a contract who we can't shift and may not be good enough for the first team.

If he is happy to sign a contract and sit in the stands we are better off letting him go for free.

He'll get game time even if it's off the bench for now. He's got to be worth ~£5m if he can put a few performances like that one together.

I posted this a while back, which was my view on the situtation:

The reason he isn't in the Europa League squad is that similar to the CL you have to include 8 association trained players 4 of whom are locally trained. If you look at our squad we have alot of players who would count as association trained (but not locally trained): Clyne, Milner, Henderson, Lallana, Allen, Ings and Gomez. In terms of locally trained players they have to have been at the club for 3 years before the age of 21, (or still be under 21 and have been at the club for 2 years). Teixeira has only been at the club for 2.5 years and is already 22 so would never qualify as a locally trained player. Presumably the locally trained players in the Europa League squad are Ibe, Rossiter, Chirivella and Brannagan as according to UEFA website they are the only players that I imagine could be eligible for those positions.

As an aside in the days where we had locally trained players who were first team regulars (Gerrard, Carragher, Sterling etc) the U21 players wouldn't have needed to be listed in the main squad but would still have been eligible for the B-list as they are under 21 and have been at the club for 2 years. At the moment the youngsters have to be used to fill the locally trained places in the squad.

In light of this the only way to get Teixeira in the squad would be to leave a senior player out and according to this seasons rules you can't change the squad at any point after 1st Sept, so if someone was missing out they would be missing out for the whole season, not just the early rounds. If he were able to qualify as locally trained presumably be in the squad and one of Chirivella or Brannagan would have been B-list players.
The bit I have crossed out is wrong I believe you can change a few (2 or 3) players after the group stages within UEFA rules (which are long and complicated - hence my mistake originally ). I believe should we make it through the group stage we would be able to bring Teixeira in for one of Ings or Gomez who are presumably out for the season. - Both count as association trained, whereas Teixeira doesn't but we have more than the minimum level of association trained players so it shouldn't be a problem. Obviously if we sign a few players in January they may move ahead of him in the queue for those spots if they are eligible.

The rules really are just ludicrously complex - why not just have one - no player can be added if they have already played in the same competition that season. And leave it at that, this association trained and home grown stuff is crazy.
