    c) Pepe is aging.
    d) Selling Pepe for lets say £15 million and bringing Butland in for £5 million would free up £10 million, plus possibly £60k per week wages.
    e) Butland can only improve, and if we get him in now can learn from Pepe.

Now I'm not saying I completely agree with this, but I see their logic. Maybe in a couple of years time Pepe might be a disaster and Butland might rise and fulfill his potential. Leaving us with a half decent aging keeper, and missing the boat on potentially Englands no1.

I wouldn't begrudge if we signed Butland, and I wouldn't begrudge Pepe if he left. After all he deserves to win at least one league title (as long as its not the premier league with anyone other than us)

Pepe has been very loyal to us and maybe his lack of form is down to him needing a new challenge. If he does go and young keeper comes in as you said... i would understand it.

Always a danger changing keepers but would see why Rogers and FSG would go for this move... anyways que sera sera and all that.

I don't see Butland coming here to learn from Pepe, if he comes imo Pepe will go very soon, so i think it would be option d.

Dunno about ageing. He is only 31.

What I meant by that was aging with regards to transfer fee. I don't recall tens of millions being spent on a goalkeeper in their 30's.

That's if we get tens of millions for him, of course.

I see where you're coming from, in goalkeeper terms he isn't "aging" however price wise he is.

for the money it would seem that this would be a good chance for us to secure a young lad who is a decent keeper and might well become a top keeper.
i reckon we buy him and loan him back till the end of the season. pepe might well be off next year and we will start with jones as our number1 and allow butland some time to ease his way in.

For a good price I think it'd be a great buy.

I'd loan him out for a year or two to a decent championship team or a lower prem team providing he was guaranteed to be a first teamer.

Even if he was the reserves keeper, he could learn a lot from Pepe and Jones before he gradually became number 1.

As well as Brad Jones has done when he has come in for Reina in the last couple of seasons, he doesn't fill you with confidence, and does seem likely to make a mistake. If as you suggest Reina leaves and we sign Butland, I would rather give Butland games than Jones, as hopefully Butland (or any young keeper) will hopefully learn from mistakes and the club will benefit in the long term, letting someone like Jones come in and make mistakes offers no benefits at all. So I would keep Jones as No.2 whoever is our No.1 keeper is, and if we sign a young keeper such as Butland have someone like Jones as a back up if he needs taking out of the firing line at some point.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                    Time to re-evaluate I think

No thought required - I'm shocked they've extended Jones' contract; he's always been an accident waiting to happen & it did last night
What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

Jack butland for the reported 3.5 mill and on much lower wages then we have been paying would be worth a deal.

We could buy him then send him out on loan but then we would need to have keepers at the club.

He would want 1st team asap thats what he he been saying through sounds through his agent but he cant be that picky, he is very young and lots to learn but much like Hart at city he has that mentality which is good to see.

For me if Reina moves in the summer which i have a gut feeling he will, (might be wrong) then with Doni as good as gone and Jones being average then we will need two keepers unless we promote Gulucsi, - he is not even that good either? problem area i can see this being for Liverppool.

IF Reina goes in the summer, I'm sure we'll have identified some decent targets and agreed budgets with FSG so it's all signed off and ready to go...

                              ..or maybe not.

And we end up signing De Gea's step-broher who used to play for Rubadubdub Town in Lichtenstein...
