Cavani arrives in Paris
Napoli striker Edinson Cavani is expected to complete a move to Paris Saint-Germain after arriving in the French capital on Monday (July 15) morning.
Cavani, 26, has been at the centre of one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer with Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester City and PSG all fighting it out for the Uruguayan’s signature.
Last season’s Serie A top-scorer with 29 goals has a buy-out clause of £53 million, which Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis revealed will expire on August 10.
The Italian club have forced any interested party to activate Cavani’s release-clause if they want to land the striker and for a time it looked most likely that the former Palermo front man would make a “dream” move to Real Madrid.
Both of Cavani’s parents frequently spoke in the media about the striker’s negotiations with the Spanish club and claimed that a deal was almost done.
However, Cavani, who played for Uruguay at this summer’s Confederations Cup in Brazil, looks set to make a move to the French capital and will become PSG’s first marquee signing of the transfer window.
He is expected to undergo a medical on Monday (July 15) ahead of completing a deal and to be unveiled on Tuesday at the Eiffel Tower.
Napoli president De Laurentiis claimed that the striker “was thinking only of money” as he prepares to sign for PSG and added that Cavani will not be forming a partnership with current PSG star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
De Laurentiis said, “Ibrahimovic won’t play with Cavani, he has already been promised to others.”Comment
