Sounds quite familiar that, blame the players and take no responsibility

But he's wanting to be England manager and that's what the Bodge used to do
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

If he had supported the players then there's no way the FA would be able to give him another contract even if they wanted to. That's what he's usually done before and look where it's got him and his team - out in humiliating fashion. More of the same will not convince the FA things are about to change.

So he's changing tack in the hope it will make them think he's tough and/or clever enough to get the team to the next level.*

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I thought I was back in the Suárez thread then.

Yes, I agree. Merely trying to come up with a rational explanation. The other option is that he's lashing out in frustration because he's knows he's about to lose his job.

I know he shouldn't really let rip and although I didn't see tonight's game it's got to be hard to argue with the assessment.

To be honest I think him slaughtering the players will be a much needed reality for some of those guys. Alot of them are on big wages and thinking they have made it when in reality the majority of under 21 players tend to fade away to the lower divisions pretty quickly.

That would be pretty cynical. Somehow I don't see Pearce as thinking like that but you could be right.

I know we were poor at the tournament but up until then hasn't Pearce's record been pretty good? Capello was a good England manager (and has a fabulous record in management) but struggled to get anything out of the England team at the World Cup. Perhaps there is a deeper problem with the mentality of players developed in this country than can be solved by any international coach.

This tournament and the senior national side's performances for a long time now, have highlighted that when all the top foreign talent is taken out of the premier league... the domestic lads left are fairly average.

Wouldn't hold up much hope for the future either for the national side, as the crop of talent coming up ....are more full of over inflated egos & their own self importance, than actual talent.

The British media have a nice big hand in over hyping these players, seems the players themselves start start to believe in it after awhile.

Some immense talent in those two squads.. lot of potential world class players there
