That would make him significantly cheaper or even available for us as a PL club at all. Situation makes more sense now. Still a bitter pill to swallow.

That may be but there is also a possibility that we refused to pay over what we considered to be a ceiling price.

Cannot say that I'm disappointed either way as there is no way of knowing if he was going to be an instant success in PL.

The good thing is that we are early in the transfer window so we can focus now on the alternatives as I'm pretty sure that we have identified more than one player for all the positions that we consider to be priorities this summer.

What a ****ing let down. Smacks of us being used by him and his owners to flush out interest from Dortmund. Cunts. Cant see all these papers here saying he was our no.1 target and he wanted move unless club was confident

How the Echo can say this morning the deal was still on but could take longer due to agents and within hours he is going to Dortmund is an epic fail really. Been taken for mugs

Rodgers said we line up five players for each position we want. Clearly he was number one.

Seems to me both ourselves & Dortmund were looking at Eriksen and both players performances in the Armenia v Denmark game clinched it.

Dortmund were all over Eriksen until after that game. Then they backed away and went for HM. That's when the tide changed in all likely.

Pay the price, negotiate for a bit then walk away as there is no point wasting time and effort if its a couple of million your quibbling over just **** it off or pay it. Just don't drag it out for months, we could be targeting someone else.

Maybe they got it right. He won't be playing that many seasons at Dortmund before Raiola sorts out a new club for him and earn even more money.

They will get a great player but not someone they can count on long term.

                    Sack Ayre! hehe

So many people who's judgement i trust on such things, were very confident we'd get him, dear me Shaggy, you've had a mare there.

Well, I think Dortmund decided to go after him after they played against Shakhtar in the CL and the Gotze money meant that they could easily afford him.

I love how pissed off people get about unfounded speculation. And Arn's theories are brilliant

Someone posted about Germany allowing 3rd party ownership or something. That's why the reported fee is so low because maybe Dortmund dont actually own all of him.

I would rather own a player outright than fanny about with ownership issues. Doesn't matter how good the player is.

I'm still optimistic after the Sahin saga last summer, how many times did he get confirmed at Arsenal? I'm hoping that Myki works out the same way. Although I obviously hope he becomes a more important player.

Ayre really couldn't do much about it if it was down to the agent fees. Henry said that we must stop paying out very high agent fees.

I have all the time said that I believe that their new transfer strategy won't take us back to the CL.

It is FSGs transfer strategy, not Ayre's.

Sometimes you must spend big on the transfer fee, agent fee and wages.
You just can't say that you will never do one of the three above.

You must decide from case to case what to do.
