Tonnes of potential and available at a reasonable price. He'd be a very shrewd signing in my humble opinion. Could be got for maybe 10 million less than we were being quoted for Mkhitaryan. Money that can be put to good use elsewhere (defence).

Young player with tons of potential.

Granted his participation for Denmark NT after the season ended was poor but he was very good for Ajax just before season finished and you do expect young players to show inconstistencies at that age.

Not only he would cost much less than Heno but he could fit very well in style of play BR wants to institute and I personally would be very pleased if we would sign him.

I doubt that Swansea would turn down a £20m+ bid and the player would probably not turn us down.

He is a player that we have a realistic chance to sign.
I think if we went in with a 20+ mill bid, there's a good chance they would turn us down. in the hope of more.

Surely that's too high as a first offer Arn, his agent is'nt the same as Mihktirian is he! ?

I like Michu but I hope we never entertain that idea for that sum of money.

I am not sure that he'd be a starter for us either.

Well, I don't think £20m would be to much for him. He already showed that he isn't a one season wonder. He had a fantastic season in Spain and then a fantastic season in the PL.

He also showed that adapting to a new playing system and tactics won't be a problem.

Liverpool set to miss out on £25 million Shakhtar Donetsk target Henrikh Mkhitaryan to Borussia Dortmund

                By Chris Bascombe

                7:47PM BST 05 Jul 2013

Liverpool have suffered a major setback to their summer transfer plans with Armenian Henrikh Mkhitaryan ready to snub them to join Borussia Dortmund.

Manager Brendan Rodgers thought he had the upper hand in the pursuit of Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder, believing that the 24-year-old was eager to move to the Premier League.

But complications over the ownership rights of the player delayed negotiations last month, and the Ukrainian club are now in advanced talks with the Champions League finalists.

Liverpool now fear their hopes are over, despite being granted permission to meet the midfielder. Mkhitaryan’s representatives have instead prioritised talks with Dortmund.

Mkhitaryan will cost around £25 million but it is Liverpool’s lack of European football, especially the Champions League, that has always made it difficult to lure one of the most coveted players in Europe.

Anfield officials will monitor how talks between the Germans and Mkhitaryan progress before accepting the deal is dead, but Dortmund are evidently in pole position now.

Liverpool thought they could conclude a deal for £20 million last month, but Donetsk expressed their unhappiness at how the player’s agents were conducting business.

Liverpool were not prepared to simply subsidise a move by the player to buy out his contract as it would set a negative precedent.

That meant negotiating a higher fee with his club – contrary to what the Merseyside club had originally understood to be the terms of the purchase. Donetsk said Mkhitaryan would cost nearer £25 million, a price Liverpool were ready meet.

Should Mkhitaryan go to Germany, it would mean Liverpool will have to revise their summer targets again.

Mkhitaryan and Greek centre-half Kyriakos Papadopolous were at the top of Rodgers’ wanted list at the start of the summer. The move for Papadopolous ended because of a long-term knee problem causing Liverpool to baulk at his asking price.

Now the Armenian playmaker it was hoped would transform the club’s ambitions for the forthcoming season will force another rethink as Rodgers tries to build a side capable of breaking back into the top four.

I'm a bit disappointed we didn't sign him. It was a gamble anyway even though he does look like a really good player. If we could sign one player I'd make lots of effort to sign Victor Fischer. I don't watch much football beyond my own team, but Fischer looks like he could become as good as SG. At the end of the day we need someone to replace Gerrard.

Oh well. I trust the current lot to spend £20m on a player. Excited to see who we go for next. It will be someone with good technical ability no doubt

Whatever. Not a necessary addition to the squad. Next!
