I don't know how good he is but our scouts most probably do.

You can still find some gems out there. There are so many excellent talents out there. For them it isn't about if they are good enough. It is about finding the right club at the right time.
Coutinho had just been playing in La Liga and had played about 30 games for Inter, including playing in the Champions League. This lad has only played 70 odd games in Serie B. There's no comparison.

Well that's dependent on who else we have lined up, if Eriksen was another target he's hardly going to get 20 goals either. I can't think of too many player out there who could do the job Mkhitaryan would have, its also assuming he'd carry on his form in the Ukrainian league over here. In the CL he had 2 goals in 8 games and 0 assists.

Maybe plan B is more than one player and playing Gerrard higher up the pitch?

Jorginho and Xabi in a 4-2-3-1. Jorginho acting as backup to Gerrard.

        ---------Lucas----Xabi----
        ---Coutinho---Gerrard----Suarez---
        --------------Sturridge-------

The three second strikers behind the striker play in a free position.

I'd have rather gone after Mertens even over Mkhitaryan though, just seems that he'd suit a Rodgers team better. Little bit surprised we didn't go after him early in the window, the longer it went the less chance I think we'd have stood but still.

why would LFC go through all the trouble of negotiating with shakhtar if the player never wanted to come in the first place.

Why would you waste so much time unless the player representatives and the player himself were interested in the move in the first place.
Huh - I never said they negotiated with the club. If you read my posts, I have actually said that the Shaktar manager has stated Liverpool never made a bid. Yes I do believe that as clubs or the player could have got into trouble for approaching players directly - it's called tapping up.

Notorious examples of tapping up in the Premier League include Dwight Yorke and Ashley Cole. In these cases, the incidents soured the relationship between the player and his original club. Cole was found guilty and fined £100,000 by the Premier League on 2 June 2005 for a meeting in a hotel in January 2005 between himself, the Chelsea manager José Mourinho, Chelsea chief executive, Peter Kenyon, and his agent Jonathan Barnett.[2]
From what I understand, the buying club need to get merely permission to speak to the player from the club before they speak to the player/his agent. Agents can however can contact potential buying teams as they please. It's a grey area.

In any case, nobody knows what contact has been made if any at all.

If we het Eriksen, we're gonna need someone like Srootman as well. Unfortunately, Gerrard and Lucas won't provide the energy and aggression in midfield that we're gonna need.

people keep thinking that its HM as first choice and eriksen as second but i dont see the similarities between both players.

If we get eriksen then its a tweak to the system that rodgers wants to play.

Sueddeutsche' says that Mkhitaryan to Dortmund would be "the most difficult transfer ever done by a German club."
So difficult, allegedly, they did it in a few days while we p*ssed about for a month. Makes me think more and more that we got played by Raiola and Henrikh

Finding another versatile mid that have goals in his game is very tough as there aren't many of them.

Eriksen is a completely different type of a midfielder but his creativity and passing skills could help improve goal totals of our other starters.

Few others that may be of interest to us could be Lamela, Draxler, Ljajic, Shaqiri for example.

the issue with eriksen is that the midfield would need re-jigging to accomodate his talent in that you would need to play another midfield player ie henderson to do his dirty work whereas with mkhitrayan you dont have that issue because he does a lot of defensive work too as well as pitching in with goals and assists.

So the addition of an extra midfielder to balance out eriksen would leave us short (er) up top

How do you know it was a few days? They could have been negoatation as long as we were.

It's a comment directed at those saying Dortmund came and sorted it in days when we couldn't get it done in months. In reality I don't believe it was done in days and I don't believe he was ever interested in coming here
