Funny how Egypt escapes criticism

I guess because it doesn’t have controlling interest in any high profile UK/European football clubs and businesses? The reason SA does receive the scrutiny is because of its increasing influence which is something ‘we’ could do (or could have done) something about.

I’d say our Government is typically compromised here, and I don’t see them speaking out much about human rights abuses anywhere.

We're in a thread about Newcastle who are owned by an arm of the Saudi government and have been bought purely as a sports washing exercise.

Of course people are.going to highlight the appauling Han rights regime in Saudi when Newcastle are being discussed.

As far as I'm aware the Egyptian government haven't bought a premier League club in a sports washing exercise.

Within the footballing context is Norbs wanting us to open a dialogue with high profile Egyptian footballers about their governments poor human rights record?

It's never mentioned in the mainstream media. That's not to say that groups like Amnesty International aren't doing their utmost to bring to people's attention what is happening in countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypty. They run (and have ran) various campaigns in recent years regarding the death penalty in Egypt and human rights abuses perpetrated by the Egyptian Government.

It be great if such campaigns were mainstream, sadly they very rarely are.

The chart posted yesterday is a great discussion point.. These countries featuring prominently unsurprising have abhorrent human rights records.

Sadly however the onus is on the individual, to seek out more information about the death penalty / human rights abuses in those countries.

As you say Egypt is very rarely brought to task by the mainstream media it doesn't however mean there aren't groups and individuals working hard to ensure that the human rights records of those governments are being exposed.

Human rights records are widely condemned, talked about and discussed if you follow Amnesty International. The only time they seem to even remotely be discussed in the press is through football.

The reality is football has enabled these regimes to sports wash their identities and that is why it is mentioned. That is why it is a scandal. The one time we actively could make a statement we don’t.

Boycotting the WC this year would also be a powerful statement that won’t happen.

VAR is a sick joke these days, they have to relook at the whole not re-reffing games outlook and if a mistake is made by on field ref then VAR tells them and it's changed.
