He's worth what clubs are willing to pay.

Considering he has had a similar priced move before and a few clubs have been knocked back for him earlier at this sort of price it would suggest he is.

I am gutted with losing out but feel positive in the stories that we have a plan D

Let's hope it is a good plan D as the squad they are building is going to make it extremely hard to compete with them.

It exciting to think of the options we will have whenever a different player is mentioned. Each one would set up differently in a team, but the unpredictability is something we may try and use to our advantage.
I think the issue is though that (now I know there is no credible link at the moment) Damiao isn't a No.9 like Sturridge. I believe he is an out and out striker. Of course he can score and his goals would be useful, but he isn't a forward like Costa, can't move across the line.

We got Cissokho, after years of links. I think we could probably sign Turan now at a cheaper price than Willian

        i think its both.

we're currently not at the level we want to be at as a club so its not an easy sell. but a good negotiator should sell the bigger picture and get the player interested in the vision.

you need to make an emotional connection with players to overcome obvious obstacles like we're facing at the moment. A good talker / motivator could perhaps do that better than Ian ayre who comes across as highly intelligent but not necessarily someone who;s going to get your juices flowing.

          Anyway, its happened again.

Can we PLEASE, use this thread for Willian discussion. If Spurs is what you desire there is a thread for it.

          Im gonna clean it up.

Is that why Willian went to Anzhi then? To fulfil his ambition of playing in some ****e league. You flip from one point of view to another. Either it's money, or it's ambition, or it's the poor negotiating skills

****ing hell. We miss out on a signing, everyone's gutted, Arn comes along and kicks you in the ****ing balls. Ridiculous posting

Gonna have to disagree with you there. We didn't speak directly to Costa or Mkihitaryan so it's unfair to say we can't sell the project on the basis of Willian rejecting us. Also if it's true that Spurs gazumped us with a 35m euros bid then I'm glad we didn't match it.

Have to say I agree with you here. But FSG (quite rightly) will not compromise our financial stability so this is where we are right now. Until we have owners who can match the big boys then we will continue to operate as we are and our only hope is BR getting it right on the pitch.

we've missed out on our top 3 targets. again thats pretty conclusive that something somewhere isnt right.
All it conclusively proves is we haven't got them. And it's a lot simpler to assume they're quite difficult to get.

Maybe what's wrong is the club have been aiming too high and should lower their sights. And we'd all love that.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I suspect the club thought even 30m Euros was overpaying for him. Anzhi are willing sellers. I'm all for overpaying for getting a deal done for a top quality player, but not just any player. That's just stupidity

                        This. 'Selling the project badly'

                        Absolute codswallop

We've lost out to teams that even with Liverpool tinted glasses on are a more attractive proposition to a footballer

We can't lie about where we are in the league, what the weather is like, how many shops there are in St Johns, that Messi and Tiago Silva will sign at the end of the month

What we COULD do, and what I suspect a certain Swede thinks we should do, is pay all these players £250k per week in the hope that we win the league this year, and the CL next year. Otherwise we go bust
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet

Did Spurs gazump us or did we both have offers accepted and the player has chosen Spurs? I understood from all the info that they matched our offer.

41m Euros according to Sky Italy. Good luck to Spurs at that price

£35m seems an eye watering amount of cash for someone who isn't exactly starting many international games!

If it is 41m Euros, we have done the right thing. **** that, we could do better for that kind of money.
