NOBODY should be dying at work.

Not building an office block, a football stadium, in a Foxconn factory that produces our consumer electronics we are all using every day, or burning to ****ing death in a garment factory in India, or China, Bangledesh, the Phillipines or any other impoverished country that makes the clothes in all our our high street stores and that all of us are no doubt currently wearing.
Woah, calm down a touch. Deep breaths. Sober up.

You were making a different argument a few posts ago.

To back up the stats you've gone to the trouble of finding, how many of those workplace deaths were on major construction sites in the UK, with the cause directly attributed to bad practice or faulty equipment by the employer?
    Oh I don't know.

Which is why I asked in my first post how the number of deaths constructing world cup stadia in Brazil compares to the number of deaths in general in Brazil. That is a meaningful comparison. We should not be any more or less outraged for a death just because they are building a football stadium.

For the record, the number of stadiums being completely renovated or newly built for the world cup in Brazil gives the exact same number of deaths per stadium ratio as when Wembley was re-built. If we built eight Wembley Stadiums over a 2-3 year period and 8 workers die I dispute that their would be outrage in this country. DEmonstrably not as nobody seems to be shocked or angry that over 2.5 people a week die at work in this country. Doesn't matter if is falling from heigh on a construction site, things falling on them on construction site. Being crushed by manufacturing machinery. The fact is that 2.5 people a year die in their workplace every week in this country. And there isn't outcry.

I read the news every day but it too a specific google search to find this story from 3 weeks ago

£90 for the shirt.... shorts £25 and socks £12 - meaning if you want to buy a full adult kit like the one used by the players it will set you back £127.

I'm guessing Rooney and not Gerrard (as captain) is central because of Nike?

Yeah, Rooney is pretty much Nike's guy.

In fact I think besides Gerrard all of those lads wear Nike boots.

I see they've done one of Cleverley in the kit.

                    £90 for a top?

I'd rather use that money as bog roll than give it to those cunts at the FA.

The previous Nike home kit has only been around since last May - seven England matches - after the manufacturer took over from Umbro, and Efford said that also hit parents hard.

I absolutely agree with what you're saying but relative to other forms of being killed it's quite a small number.

If memory serves there are the best part of 2000 road deaths in the UK (i.e. significantly more than there are people killed at work) yet this isn't generally perceived as being especially newsworthy either except perhaps in the cases of multiple pile ups or to some extent in local press.

The HSE have a pretty good press office and if you subscribe to their emails you'll read about all sorts of depressing workplace accidents the majority of which could have been avoided.

Unfortunately because many of those accidents have had to be investigated by the HSE and have then gone to court, the time lag between an accident taking place and a company being prosecuted is fairly long and I guess because of this relatively significant delay, News Editors are then not particularly interested in what they consider to be old news.

I suppose if this wasn't the case, maybe people would be more aware of workplace deaths and serious accidents and the resulting publicity would perhaps lead to a virtuous circle where such incidents were not the norm as sometimes appears to be the case.

USA World Cup away kit sparks outrage as critics say it looks like a FRENCH flag

New jerseys from away kit feature top-down colored bands in blue, white and red

Fans have taken to Twitter to compare the jerseys to the French flag
'It's basically the flag upside down,' one wrote
'Not American and neither is that lighter blue' another said
Shirt also compared to a frozen popsicles
What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

                        Batman

                        F*** off!!!

Whoaaa there Dave, think of the extra cost. A few deaths is worth it if it keeps the costs down, all that expensive harnesses and Health and Safety nonsense just adds up and is passed on to the customer. The worker should be happy to have a job and should be prepared for the risks involved. That's his own responsibility.

I knew something was annoying me about that pic, then it clicked...........Rooney is standing on a few phone books, seeing as how his 5'9" is suddenly up there with Stevie and Dan's 6'0"
