My guess is that Palace are not willing to invest heavily and he can't be arsed with a full season fighting relegation. To be honest it must be pretty draining and without any opportunity to progress having nice holidays and getting a wad of cash for a few months work each years sounds pretty good to me.

I caught the end of something on the radio today that suggested this could have something to do with the Manchester bombing, sounded like he may have known someone there and decided he wants to do things other than football.

Gartside was quoted in the press in the aftermath. One of the first victims (18 years old) to be named played for Bolton U11 girls so it is possible with his timeline and being ex-Bolton manager that he knew or at least had a connection to her/family.
