I don't agree really. I've seen lots of incidents where a defender has had to play/try to cut out a ball that is going to an attacked who would have previously been given offside but is now not because they have not touched the ball. The fail to cut it out and then we have this 'second phase' lark (it is clearly still the first passage of play but a touch from a defender seems to create a new one) and that player who was 4 yards ahead of the defender scores. Player cant let it go because the lino might miss it/not give it.
Massive disadvantage to the defender compared to a small disadvantage to attackers changing clear space to level - and as far as i can remember lear space was a change from level a few seasons previous anyway!
