The FA just talk a good game.

I see they have implemented the Rooney rule, taken from the NFL for future coaching appointments.

But they continue to undermine their own ideologies. Appointing Phil Neville as Women Coach when surely better candidates are available. They even manage to undermine themselves in the actual moment they announce the Rooney rule, when Martin Glenn suggested women are less tolerant of banter than men.

Paying lip service to these modern ideas is one thing, but how about the FA perhaps appointing a board position to a female. Or maybe appointing a BAME CEO?

If appointing Phil Neville is sufficient to raise the profile of women football then things are pretty bad. I find it hard to believe that there weren't better qualified coaches, male or female than him. Giving a guy that doesnt need any further support, support is not the way forward.

Im not saying the appointment was right, but Im suggesting the idea behind it might not be 'jobs for the boys' type.

I think most football fans would acknowledge that the FA in this country is no longer fit for the purpose its intended. Especially given they not only run the national team, but oversee suspending players who are part of those teams. They are a conflict of interest.

Anyway, Neville is an idiot, and its a shame to see the England Ladies team treated like this. Doubt he will be in the job long.
