Richard Wright announced his retirement this week, after putting a halt to his 21-year playing career.
The real story about his retirement is the earnings he received despite never making a single appearance for Manchester City.
The keeper has been at City since 2012, and has made an incredible £1.4 million in wages. Again, he didn't ever feature between the sticks in his four year spell with the Blues. Even though he was unable to play a game, Wright was still being paid £7,000 a week.
How close was he to ever playing for City I hear you ask, well, Wright was named as a substitute just the three times, obviously never getting the nod.
Following spells at a cluster of clubs, then-manager Roberto Mancini signed him up. Subsequently putting pen to paper to a one-year extension after every season as a back-up to the likes of Joe Hart, Costel Pantilimon and Willy Caballero.
Enjoy retirement, Richard.

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
