was John Stones though? Maguire has had 1 and a half seasons in prem and looked good throughout.

Although a 30m profit on a half season is bat **** mental.

Have west ham game on in the background. A player just got a boot in the face knocking his front tooth out. No booking obviously.

It shouldn't be a red IMO but the inconsistencies in the game are baffling.

So bear in mind they already had world class players and were spending a fortune.

        - 51m Walker
        - 57m mendy
        - 50m Silva
        - 40m Ederson
        - 30m Danilo

        - 55.6m Stones
        - 50m Sane
        - 32m Jesus
        - 27m Gundogan
        - 18m Nolito

Throwing that amount on money to an already excellent side, no ****ing wonder they are winning everything this season.
They pay a lot for the players they get but non are world class signings. They aren't paying out 90 plus and blowing teams out of the water. They identify the players and pay the extra 10 or 15m to get them.

He's a world class manager making the most of the ability to get the players he wants. It's hardly the Utd or Real way of doing it.

Reasonable argument, but they spend that second tier cash everywhere on the pitch, and a lot of those purchases were before everyone else went mad too.

They already had Silva, Aguero and Kompany.. the 2 former are world class and Kompany was considered world class CB before injuries got him.

No team has world class players in every position but they bought the best keeper in Portugal in Ederson, the best LB in French football last season in Mendy, the most promising young English CB in Stones, the most promising talent coming out of Brazil in Jesus, one of the best Belgian talents in KDB, the best winger in French football in Silva, one of the most promising young German talent in Sane & one of the best young English attacking talents in Sterling. You see the trend here? It's a long term view but they are buying the best young talents out there to add to an already quality side.

Pep has spent more than any manager in the history of the game & it's in over drive at City with unlimited funds. I am not saying he is not a quality manager but It's much easier to win things when you are consistently spending huge sums over and over and over where as Klopp is selling to buy every year or a small net spent at best.

United have spent a comparable amount - the City team is vastly superior. It's obviously easier to win things with better players, but Pep has also made players better. Otamendi and Sterling are obvious examples but Delph might be the most unexpected.

There is an argument that Pep would be useless at a lesser team but it seems meaningless to me. He makes very good teams exceptional in a way that almost no other manager can.

This. It's only really this last year that prices have gone crazy, but they have routinely been buying batches of players for £35m+ each, before we signed VVD they had almost a team of players who cost the about the same or more than our record signing. If you have £30-40m to spend per position on the pitch over the past couple of years that buys you a bloody good team. Particularly with the wages that they are prepared to pay. Admittedly you have to get the right players, but knowing you can afford to spend another £30m if the player you buy doesn't work out must make it a little easier
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Who is better currently then? Klopp aside for obvious reasons of bias from everyone?

Pep sets his teams out really well, no obvious focus on a single player, really attractive fun football.

I cant see many others in the world better than him, and using his owners bank balance to discredit that is doing him a massive disservice.

All top level managers have gross amounts of cash at their disposal. Its obvious that not all know how to spend it well.

Another way to look at is to see the managers who preceded (and succeeded) Pep at City (, Barcelona and Bayern). Who used the resources available to them the best?

I think this argument about chequebook managers is over-simplistic and misses the point somewhat.
                      Oh I don't know.

It massively does IMO. Its like asking if Messi could be the same level of player at Colchester United. Of course he couldn't, he wouldn't be half the player without those around him and supporting his game.

What is Pep supposed to do? Go to Stoke?

I reckon Messi would hit triple figures in a season if he played for Colchester.

Yeah. But they still wont get out of League 2.

I'd pay great money to see a 2 and a half foot Messi tearing it up at Colchester.
