I think the thing that struck me was he was on a cheap crappy plane. You'd think most Prem players would be travelling on a decent quality plane these days?

Apparently he had already said he feared travelling on it before it took off.

The club made their private jet available and also offered to book commercial. Everything is fine in hindsight though.

...if that was the case, I'd be all over that instead of some single prop piece of crap like those in the BBC video. I've flown in those things a few times when I was younger and they're pretty terrifying with very little metal and canopy between you and a big blue sky...

Something more substantial and a co-pilot would be the norm surely for Premier League players with the investment put into them.

Really sad story though, such a freak thing to happen so soon after signing...

All easy to acknowledge after the fact I suppose.

Even from Cardiff’s point of view. He’s just become their biggest ever signing. Their biggest asset, and to then allow him to get in a small aircraft with one ‘rusty’ pilot, (no co-pilot) who has no doubt been offered a decent amount of cash to make the flight.

It seems an incredible set of circumstances for the multi million £ industry of the PL.

I can only assume the plane must have ditched relatively intact if no oil slick or debris was visible.

I used to live on Guernsey, the seas will be wild and cold this time of year I suspect they will have died during first night. I wonder if they will wash up? I cant figure out the timeline of his whatsapp call.

Must be absolutely horrendous for the families.

Its a weird one for Cardiff, he didn't really ever get involved so the personal connection doesn't exist. And yet ultimately his decision to join them inadvertently brought about his demise.

Must be very strange experience for Nantes supporters.

Possibly. The controls he was 'rusty' with was ILS (Instrument Landing System) which isn't likely relevant to the disappearance, and the idea that he wasn't a good pilot because he wasn't a commercial pilot seems unnecessarily judgemental. He has/had a wife and three kids, the current coverage seems a bit insensitive.

Sounds like the pilot made poor decisions in flying height and perhaps lacked experience in icing situations. We'll never know.

If it ditched and landed intact (ie no wreckage, no slicks etc) then surely they would have been ok enough to make it to the onboard raft?

If it hit the water at speed, there should be some sort of wreckage visible. If it exploded in mid air, more so cos it would be scattered over a larger area.

2m high waves and strong currents.. Pilots familiar with the plane reckon they'd be under in less than 15 minutes. And we're assuming there was a raft.

Not necessarily, I've been out in the Irish Sea at night in stormy weather on a smallish fishing boat, if the sea isn't in hospitable mood it would be very difficult to escape a plane and be in contact with the life raft, and then getting in the thing.
