Pissed up boozy rant at her players...

Shelley Kerr reduces World Cup heroes to tears as Scotland women's coach issues apology over boozy rant

Kerr led Scotland to their first ever World Cup this summer but they were eliminated at the group stage after a three-goal collapse against Argentina.

Scotland women’s boss Shelley Kerr reduced her World Cup stars to tears as she blamed them for being knocked out the tournament in a boozy rant.

Kerr admits that she, along with some of her backroom team, “had a few drinks” before the explosive debrief.

The SFA – who were rocked by the Boozegate scandal involving Barry Ferguson and Allan McGregor – had to have talks with Kerr and her stars.

In an interview Kerr revealed her regret at the way she reacted to her squad, saying she would “do things differently” if confronted with the same scenario now.

She also revealed that some players considered quitting the national side as tempers flared at the highly-charged showdown – but Kerr insists the squad is still fully behind her.

She told BBC Scotland: “There were a few hard and fast conversations. That will happen in a performance environment.

“On reflection would I do things differently? Yeah of course, maybe the timing because the emotions, certainly the circumstance, were so unique.”

Scotland’s women lost the opening two games of their first World Cup against England and Japan before conceding three in the final 16 minutes to draw 3-3 with Argentina when victory would have earned a coveted last-16 place.

Kerr is understood to have pointed the finger at the players in Paris the day after the final match – but denied that too much booze had fuelled her outburst.

She said: “The staff were working around the clock and the day after, when the tournament finished, myself and some of the staff went out for a meal and we had a few drinks.

“You’re on time off but I can see the perception.”

The revelations came as Kerr named her squad for the first Euro 2021 qualifier against Cyprus on August 30. Injured duo Lana Clelland and Christie Murray are the only members of the World Cup squad not involved.

Glasgow City midfielder Sam Kerr, 20, is the only uncapped player called up.

Boss Kerr added: “I’ve spoken to a lot of the players directly and indirectly and I have a positive feeling about the Euros. That’s what we need to focus on now.”

Whenever I read the word boozy, it conjures images of old style pint glasses and darts players

Mad this. Good for her. It takes a brave person to come out in the world of football, but hopefully its the continuation of this positive progressive trend we are seeing.

Too many absolute thieving rats owning clubs. FA needs to get rough and eradicate them from the game.

Steve Dale sounds like a bit of a prick. Sadly for Bury they are not as glamorous and appealing as we were when the rats were running the club. Could be curtains for Bury this weekend. 136 years of history lost to selfish greed

He didn't pass it! Takeover was allowed to go through despite him not taking the test now Bury are being penalised for him being incompetent

I'd be setting up a class action against the FA for not running the test.

The premier league should be giving some of their wealth to prop up these clubs.

I think they might do to the football league, it's not enough though. Imagine if all PL players agreed to a 2% tax to benefit clubs in lower leagues. Total wages in 2017 were £2.9 billion so that would equal £58 million, that's got to help surely
