Do we lay the blame for all those deals failing to complete at the feet of nefarious external forces or should the club be reviewing jow they operate in the hope of improving their chances next time round.

I have said it before and I will say it again we face greater competition for good quality players than at any other era in our history. As such we have to be swifter, smarter and more cute than our competition at times it doesnt appear to be the case
Mkhitaryan - Wanted to go Dortmund to play CL with a team that had just played in the final

Wiilian - Once Chelsea came in for him we were always going to miss out they can offer CL football and huge wages which we cant't, overpriced anyway at over 30m, good player but not worth what Chelsea paid

Salah - We refused to pay 16m for a player with no experience outside the bloody Swiss league and quite right too

I'll be disappointed if we fail to sign Kono but you're just being overly negative and predictably looking for an excuse to bash Ayre and FSG because they sacked your hero Kenny.

I dont know the root cause of the problem, all I know is we tried for 4 or 5 quality players and failed to get over the line for whatever reason.

As a matter of good business practice the club should be reviewing those deals and correcting those mistakes or at the very least minimising the chances of them occurring as frequently as they have been

By the way you haven't quoted Chris's post properly.

Agree that practice should be reviewed regularly. And I've seen nothing to suggest that it is or isn't.

We have some pretty intelligent and successful people at the club. They wouldn't be where they are without challenging the status quo.

Sometimes you just have to accept your place in the world's pecking order.
          Oh I don't know.

And predictably you are thinking I hold a grudge and am bashing FSG and Ayre.

I have not criticised either of them except my sack Ayre comment which was in jest

We are missing out on players for whatever reason and the club as a whole should be working on trying to limit the chances of this happening in the future

Equally you are conveniently absolving all people at LFC of any blame

100% that we're only after Konoplyanka on SSN.

According to them the hold up is with Dnipro and not the player.

Maybe we should not strive for any improvement and just settle for mediocrity

He's not the only one mate

What do you make of Maddocks latest article about why the deal looks unlikely to happen.

                      Obviously.

You said it yourself though. Competition for the best players is intense. If you're outside the Champions league, it's a massive ask to attract them.
                      Oh I don't know.

Sounds like Ayre has gone out with a suitcase full of these.

Going back to earlier, they must've been prepared to sell earlier in the week to have accepted an offer from us and allowed us to travel. If they did and have backtracked then what a bunch of shisters

What model do we follow then? What club sets the example? Chelsea, City, Utd, can name them all and theres 10s and 10s of players theyve missed out on. Do all they all have inept people in charge or are transfers harder to complete than people on internet forums think?

It just seems weird to constantly blame Ayre, Marcus has already decided its his fault and is having his usual tantrum despite the fact theres more than a few articles saying it's agents being cunts.

Its not impossible though. To me we have to improve our strike rate in terms of completing such deals

If we dont its going to be even more difficult to compete at the higher echelons
