I'm of the opinion that this is nearer the truth. Whilst it might not be completely accurate, I don't believe Ian Ayre would have spent three days in Ukraine trying to convince the owner to sell.

Exactly why go there if the owner never had any intention of selling

But why go there if we never had any intention of paying ?

I think they're telling porkies. Only a hunch but I wonder if our silence on this - bar the original explanation there's been nothing from the local press pack - means we are preparing some sort of legal case.

            To negotiate a lower fee.

When we couldn't get them to agree our payment structure, we spun it so that the failure was on them.

And when it comes time to pay, as a deal is agreed ?

              We run away ?

              tbh, i was joking.

Perhaps we were haggling over the fee for so long they got ****ed off, in a moment of desperation we agree at the last moment to pay the release clause and they simply smile and say **** off.

Could be. Either way, i really doubt we left them sitting there waiting for the money, when we knew it wasn't even sent.

I know, Vermy - you were just being facetious.

I can see both sides of the argument, I just lean more to the side that we have tried to put a positive spin on what turned out to be an unsuccessful attempt.

                      My point exactly.

                        I wouldn't be surprised.

**** knows how that would work though. Through UEFA? The Ukrainian legal system? It would sound like a nightmare either way.
                        Oh I don't know.

Surely the money wouldn't be sent anyway until after the deal was signed?

Surely any legal action is down to the player though? As it is the terms of the contract between the player and his club that have been broken. It's up to him to force the issue I would have thought, if he doesn't want to force the issue there is nothing we can do.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

It's starting to sound more like a hostage negotiation than a football transfer.
