Hope Sturridge gets the chance to play as the main central striker.

I'd be shocked if he does.

And I think Roy has a problem. He is desperate to field a line up with Rooney & Sturridge. But neither of them are suitable on the wing in his favoured system of 433.

He could go 4231, but I think Gerrard and as such, England, would struggle with that. The only option is to drop one of them or go with the diamond like at LFC. hopefully he tries that in a warm up game & it works out.
          Forwards.......

Whilshere, Lampard and Wellbeck certainly don't deserve starting places IMO.

I don't think it matters where you are born or even where you grow up. To be classified as homegrown you need to have spent a number of years in an English football academy. I don't remember how long or when.

I don't remember who it was now but I remember reading about a Man City player being classified as homegrown even though he was of another nationality because he came through the Arsenal academy.

The cutoff is 36 months prior to their 21st birthday, I believe. Probably thinking of Gael Clichy, he counts as homegrown.

The training looks rough, running around in Portugal with tons of layers on.

I've got a feeling Roy will start Sturridge wide left, with Raheem on the right.

Midfield 3 of Lallana, Gerrard and Wilshere too.

Scholes is right imo. Rooney would be a better player if he was more selfish.

I think it would be better for England to play Sturridge up the top but it obviously won't happen because nobody has had the balls to do that to Rooney despite a relatively average England career so far.

World Cup 2014: England should play like Liverpool - Paul Scholes

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has urged England boss Roy Hodgson to emulate Liverpool's attacking style of play at the World Cup in Brazil.

Scholes said Liverpool's "swagger" this season, in which they fell just short of a first league title since 1990, had reminded him of "United at their best".

"It would be refreshing for England to adopt Liverpool's attacking mentality," Scholes said in a blog for Paddy Power.

"That means four, and possibly five, Liverpool players in the starting XI."

Liverpool scored 101 goals in the league, with captain Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson and Glen Johnson, who are all in Hodgson's 23-man squad, all playing important roles in the Reds' push for the title.

"I'd definitely start with Gerrard, Sturridge, Henderson and Sterling," said Scholes.

"The question mark is Johnson at right-back. It's probably Phil Jones' best position right now. Johnson is a touch better going forward, but it's a tight call.

"Ultimately Liverpool fell short but the thing I admired most was the swagger of their play and how they terrorised opponents, which reminded me of United at their best."
                              Michael Carrick

Carrick should be going to Brazil, says Scholes

But Scholes said Hodgson's decision to exclude Michael Carrick from the squad was an error, with the Manchester United player offering the best alternative to Gerrard in a deep-lying midfield position.

"If there's an injury to Gerrard, nobody jumps out to replace him. I don't see Henderson, Frank Lampard or Jack Wilshire playing Gerrard's role," he said.

"I think that England's success in the group stages hinge on Gerrard staying fit."
Scholes also voiced his opinion on Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure's recent complaints about a perceived lack of respect shown him by the club's owners.

"As for Yaya Toure sulking because Manchester City didn't mark his birthday with sufficient respect, it was comical," he said.

"It's quite embarrassing, really. I can't remember Man United players acting like this."
