Personally I think the Premier League should treat this like the African Cup Of Nations

Keep the domestic league and cup schedules as they would normally be at that time of year and allow clubs to release players for the World Cup as they see fit.

For that season only allow teams that are the most affected to have larger squads (say 40 players instead of 25) so they can field teams while the World Cup is going on.

FIFA probably won't like it... but as it's their complete incompetence that's created this situation in the first place then tough

They cant do it, part of the FIFA constitution is a blackout of all domestic competitions during their World Cup plus 1 week before and after

So to do this they would have to leave FIFA and its governance, which wouldnt be a bad idea if they actually had the balls to do it and some support from the other European leagues

Fox sports have dropped their objection to moving the Qatar competition to the winter (they'd previously claimed breach of contract), at the same time they've signed an expensive extention until 2026.

What I do think will happen is that the leagues (and the clubs) will negotiate hard / pursue FIFA for large amounts of compensation for the disruption caused

No there is too much money in it and those countries risk putting themselves out on a limb. The best thing that could happen is that the European countries get together and say that no-one from UEFA/Europe is going, because a world Cup without the European teams would be **** and would have a huge impact on advertising revenue etc and viewing figures would drop significantly (hitting them where it hurts), then set up a rival association and invite the other nations to join.

And when FIFA announce a world-record sponsorship deal with Qatar Airways later this year, as insiders expect, none at all.

Utterly incredible how this would be allowed to stand.

I was reading something earlier today that one or two of the associations and 3 sponsors (Coke, Adidas & McDonalds) had previously asked FIFA to clean up their act and had essentially been told if they didnt like it to **** off

I think having the Qatar Airways deal in the pipeline has put then in such a position that they dont give a ****

The whole organisation is no longer fit for purpose its the most corrupt organisation in the world, it feels like it is above the law and Blatter is King Cunt of it all

I would love the whole organisation to disappear into one all mighty abyss but sadly its never gonna happen
