The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world that Roy Hodgson knows what he's doing.
A lot of people run a race to see who is fastest. I run to see who has the most guts, who can punish himself into exhausting pace, and then at the end, punish himself even more.

Who's the nation's finest football coach? It's Tony Pulis.
      Are we winning?

Getting Hodge out for another middle of the road manager is pointless. Unless its going to be a radical appointment, which it wont be.

Otherwise its Meet the new Tactical Dinosaur, same as the old Tactical Dinosaur.

One thing Hodgson has done is make this team likeable again, which is no mean feet.

This talk of Neville (I'm only at the beginning of the thread) is a bit silly.

Talking a good game on telly is one thing. Managing people, let alone a bunch of petulant ego maniac immature millionaires is quite another. You get enough personality / productivity / quality issues managing people in an office, let alone having just about the highest profile managerial job in the the country. Without prior experience.
          Oh I don't know.

Welbeck was the only one I probably wouldn't have picked, probably would have had Lallana in there ahead of him.

A group of us chatted last night before and after the game (probably about 10 of us, good cross section of the fan base) and every person agreed that the selection wasn't the problem. That team was the best of a bad bunch. Not much hiding that.
I agree 100% with your previous post that if Hodgson was sacked most likely England will get another tactical dinosaur. However I disagree with the post quoted above that England cannot expect more than this as this is the capacity of the team.

Look at the Costa Rica team, player for player in the squad they are miles behind England in terms of talent.

However they have a tactically astute and passionate manager who knew the correct system to play as a team. They were brilliant defensively and attacked on the break intelligently. The score could have been worse for Italy with the penalty and Chiellini sent off.

I agree that there are multiple factors for Englands exit but the single most critical factor is - England have the worst manager in the group and they are going to finish fourth.

The only great candidate is Rodgers. It's all well and good picking a team of liverpool players off the basis of a good domestic season, but you've got to then play them in the right system. What Hodgson has done is played a style that approximates ours on paper but in reality doesn't play to the strengths of the players.

If there's one man who would get the best out of the national team (including Rooney), it's Rodgers.

The players should have been good enough to get out of the group stages if you consider the talent we've actually got but as usual we pick an 11 and fit them into a formation rather than chose our formation and pick the best players to get the most out of it.

The two man midfield was a crazy idea as was accommodating Rooney and stifling our best player from the first game to do so.

Worst World Cup effort since 1958, take a bow Roy you've done it again

I hate to say it but that defence could have done with John Terry in it.

I was saying the other day that the central defensive partnership was probably the worst I can remember - England used to be so ludicrously well stocked with big leaders from central defence. In recent times, Sol Campbell, Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Woodgate, Ledley King, Jamie Carragher - all of them would have waltzed into that team ahead of those chosen.

That said, I reckon Baines had a shocker of a tournament and leaving Ashley Cole was probably the biggest defensive mistake made by Roy.

Caulker, 22 who will be Jags replacement at Everton for 8m, might have been a better choice for Woy.

24 Teams qualify dont they. Top 2 in each group, then the 3rd place gets into a play off too.

Itll take a monumental effort to **** that up.

Can't believe I'm going to agree with Owen but I don't think Neville would be a bad shout, not sure he's daft enough to want to take the job on mind.
