It's great for so many reasons, but I came from a series of awful, one-horse towns. It's spreading as we speak though, one day it will envelope you too... the marabunta are coming!...Experimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

There seems to be a lot of snobbery about living down south as if there aren't decent places to live up here! There are some less than desirable places in Liverpool and Manchester just as there are in London, but there are some fantastic areas up here! We're in the heart of the UK here with easy access to more areas of natural beauty than anywhere down south that's for sure!!! Not sure how important that is to the average footballer, but I wouldn't move down there if I was offered quadruple my current salary.Originally posted by Venton View PostI certainly hope you're right and will cheer loudly if you are. Last year's performance will certainly help. And lets face it, with the wages they pay it's a small price to helicopter them up for each match if they don't like the neighbourhood

It wasn't anything in particular keeping me up North, just the idea of London never appealed.

I've found it culturally very rich living in London which I've grown to love. It's more expensive to live down south and some people equate cost with worth which is a mistake. There are just a lot more people which makes it more cosmopolitan and there is a school of thought that says the greater the population density the more productive/culturally rich you become. Not quite sure myself. I'm looking to move at the moment and I'm on a knife-edge for London/Manchester. Given the choice I'd stay here for the gigs/cinemas/boozers/exhibitions/architecture/diversity but it's a close call to maybe move back up north again for a much bigger house and easy access to the countryside/space. It's a tough one really.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostThere seems to be a lot of snobbery about living down south as if there aren't decent places to live up here! On a side note I was fairly apprehensive of moving to London back in the 80s as everyone I knew made it sound like Fallujah (now). I saw a shedload more violence in Plymouth in a few short years than I've ever seen in London.Experimental music, Metropolitan foodstuffs, Mexican wrestler art, London suburbia, wry whimsy, fansy pants flim flam lad

Each to their own, we're hardly lacking in gigs/cinemas/boozers/exhibitions/architecture/diversity up here!!! London is just cramped. Eventually it will sink and we'll all move to Billinge and laugh.Originally posted by Venton View PostI'm looking to move at the moment and I'm on a knife-edge for London/Manchester. We can offer the Kop, the Godgers project, lots of dosh, Champions' League footie and the #7 shirt.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostNot convinced about that, we landed Torres and then Suarez. Man City lured the likes of Balotelli, Yaya Toure and Aguero (I know you mentioned the super-duper financial incentive). I think we have more than our fair share of top foreign talent up here. I think most foreign players are just mercenaries anyway, but there's more long-term value of being a player for a northern club than a London club. They are genuinely idolised up here and they get to keep more of their money too for when they eventually piss off back home, Spain or wherever!
At Arsenal, the only thing for certain is that he gets to play with Giroud.

Hang on, where are you from?Originally posted by Fierce View PostI'm northern!! Moved down to that there London town when I was 19, and actually recently moved down to the coast; literally moved as far south as it was possible to get without buying a boat
That said, I do miss Liverpool, though I wouldn't move back home or to Manchester. I've never understood the dislike of London from mates back homeSack swinging like Dub-D40 on a door hinge

That's absolutely true, but there are just more in London, it's the way it is. It's a 24 hour a day non-stop rollercoaster if you have the energy. There's not a city like it in Europe that I've seen. It's nothing inherent, it's having 8-odd million people in one place that makes it so. Which also makes it packed, exhausting and impersonal.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostEach to their own, we're hardly lacking in gigs/cinemas/boozers/exhibitions/architecture/diversity up here!!! Manchester is over-rated, but there are nice parts of Cheshire. As a whole the North West has much more to offer than London. People might cite cultural bollocks, you can see War Horse every week for 20 years or something. I don't care about stuff like that. I can be in Snowdonia or the Lakes or the Dales or the Peak District within an hour. You can keep your cultural nonsense, give me space and countryside and also the delights of the city too any time. I'm done now anyway. Night night. xOriginally posted by captainfog View PostNorwich>London>Manchester
