Liverpool agree £8m deal with QPR for striker Loic Remy as Brendan Rodgers takes spending close to £70m
Personal terms and a medical are still to be concluded, but Anfield officials regard this a formality as striker prepares to become the fifth signing of the summer

Liverpool expect to complete the signing of Loic Remy in the next few days after agreeing an £8m deal with QPR for the French striker.

Brendan Rodgers hopes the 27-year-old will join his squad during their tour of the USA this week as he continues the process of replacing Luis Suarez.

Liverpool have taken advantage of a release clause in Remy’s contract, although there will be a significant outlay on the striker’s wages which are believed to be around £90,000 a week.

Personal terms and a medical are still to be concluded, but Anfield officials regard this a formality as Remy prepares to become the fifth signing of the summer.

Remy will now challenge Daniel Sturridge for the number one striking role on Merseyside, Liverpool eager for the player not to be seen as a like for like replacement for Suarez.

Rodgers is likely to adapt his system this season, no longer tied to the option of playing two strikers as he felt compelled to in order to accommodate the Suarez and Sturridge partnership.

Liverpool have spent nearly £70 million on their squad already this summer, but there is a promise of much more.

Rodgers has already vowed to pass the £100 million mark with his purchases, re-investing the Suarez cash.

He is also benefiting from other significant sales.

Fabio Borini is on the verge of a move to Sunderland for £14 million, despite featuring in the club’s pre-season fixture at Preston this afternoon.

"They’ve offered to buy Fabio," confirmed Rodgers on Saturday.

"He obviously spent a successful period at Sunderland last year and it’s a fantastic club. There an agreement between the clubs but nothing agreed with the player.”

Liverpool have also agreed to send defender Andre Wisdom - who also featured in the friendly with Preston - on loan to West Bromwich Albion.

Rodgers has already signed Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic, Rickie Lambert and Emre Can.

Can and Lambert made their Liverpool debut at Deepdale on Saturday.

I love the transfer window, this one even more so. We're building a decent squad with quality in most positions, let's just hope that we get a few decent results early on to settle any nerves & silence any doubters.

I though he was taking a pay cut to 60k?

Perfect signing. Can play as a lone striker, but isn't redundant with Sturridge and Lambert because he can play inside left in a 4-3-3. Gives us options, depth and scoring.

Really happy with the idea of this signing. 1 in 2 proven prem goalscorer is ridiculously cheap at 8 million!

Strangely excited about this signing. Looking forward to seeing what a sharp striker who's only ever played in average English teams can do with the bountiful chances we'll serve up to him.

His injury record is decent I think.

He only started 24 league games last year for Newcastle, but he was suspended for 3 after a sending off, plus 2 sub appearances means he missed 9 games through injury. If I remember rightly most of that was in one block around March time.

He only started about the same number of games the previous year, but did move clubs mid season. The 4 previous seasons in France however he played 32, 34, 33 & 29 games (just in the league). Seems to indicate to me that he picks up minor injuries leading to a few games out every season, as you'd expect I suppose, but rarely has serious injuries leading to long absences.

According to wiki he did however have tests over an apparent heart defect found when he moved to Marseille, but it was decided this wasn't a problem.

Good price. If he doesn't work out then, based on his history, there is likely to be a Newcastle, villa, WHU, or club in Europe that would fancy taking him on for 5 or 6 million....

He is a French international. The price is a steal. He can play left of a 3 as well as top. Has pace, has good technique and can score if chances are presented to him. He will have more chances than ever before being in this attacking liverpool side.

The fact that France are hosts in the next European championships in 2 years time is likely to provide great motivation.

My only concern is the rape allegation and the recent drink driving conviction. Perhaps not the nicest chappie.

Bit of a lazy fooker but knows how to score, a good "cheap" signing imo.
