Mario Balotelli will win 'struggle' to make the grade at Liverpool FC

Mario Balotelli “will win this struggle” to make the grade at Liverpool FC – while rumours of a falling out with Brendan Rodgers have been dismissed.

Speculation intensified over Balotelli’s Anfield future after he was left out of the matchday squad for the goalless FA Cup fourth round draw with Bolton Wanderers last Saturday.

Reds boss Rodgers subsequently admitted the striker was finding it difficult to adapt to Liverpool’s new tactical approach but has not given up hope of the Italian making a breakthrough at Anfield.

And Balotelli’s agent, Mino Raiola, insists the player wants to prove his £16million move from AC Milan was not a mistake.

“Yes, he is happy at Liverpool,” said Raiola. “Nobody is happy to be left out, but he reacted in a professional way.

“Mario will win this struggle and become better. It is then up to Brendan Rodgers to give him a chance.

“Mario needs to adapt and Liverpool need to adapt.

“He was injured and moved to a big club. This move was the right thing to do in his career. He’s still one of the best in the world.

“We didn’t ask to leave. It is too early, with the injury, to say we leave in January.

“There are no big problems. He’s adapting to a new style that the manager wants. We’ll see in the summer.”

Balotelli has yet to score a Premier League goal for Liverpool and hasn’t started a game since November.

Raiola also played down suggestions Balotelli and Rodgers are struggling to work together.

“They’re talking and it is a good relationship,” he said.

“Mario likes him. They do not agree on everything – it is technical reasons they don’t agree on – but Mario will strive to give the manager what he wants.”

You do wonder whether the constant niggling injuries he has are a limiting factor in his failure to adapt easily to the way we want to play. A bit of a rest might actually do him good.

For me there is only one way to resurrect his LFC career - we need to bring Cassano in on a free. It's been ages since we had any public lunacy from any of our players.

A bit of rest! He hasn't exactly been busting his ball bag recently. If he is injured so be it but it appears from comments from BR that either he is too thick to understand what is expected in training or he just can't be arsed, if it is the latter he should be sacked, if it is the former the coaches want their arses kicking but something is not right when a 90k a week player can't make the matchday squad.

He has been managing a long term injury with Italy for years - implying that he has never really become fully fit. It's taken Lucas two years to get back to his level.

So, are you saying we bought an injured player and this is being hidden by the staff by saying he doesn't understand what is expected of him in training?

              or

              A lazy ******* with a bad attitude?

              or

              something else?

Why wouldn't BR just say he is injured and therefore unavailable?

I'm saying the latter two could be true but sometimes things are more complex.

He's clearly not injured enough to not play just for that but he has had a long running injury problem that requires management that has been publicly talked about in Italy for ages apparently (I claim no secret source - the information is from the Guardian podcast). We want to change him into a hard pressing player - perhaps he is less willing to adapt/finds it harder to do instinctively because he is hampered by a minor injury.

No one has ever suggested that Mario is a fast, or even willing, learner and every extra barrier to engagement seems likely to reduce the chances of success.

with seconds ticking away, he's fannying around on the line rather than playing a simple pass to Hendo only metres away...and predictably, he loses it. He is the antithesis of our style of play.

There was effort there but was to blame for their goal. Risky asking him to pick up a player like Ivanovic though.

Did a couple of nice flicks, and barged through once, but he's not the right player for us and isn't that good for the kind of player he is. Waste of a squad space.
