I'm just fairly pleased that I'm not a scout for Liverpool, I didn't want Ings but did like MemphisOriginally posted by dww View PostAnyone still gutted we missed out on Memphis?
Really dodged a bullet there, the United fans are shredding him to pieces. LVG complained his side lacked pace but I thought he was supposed to bring that, it's weird though, I'd have thought LVG knew Memphis' qualities from the Dutch setup.

In a way that was the thing I wanted to highlight. People make out that the signings we 'should have made' are obvious (and definitely achievable) but actually most people are wrong about players far more often than they think they are.
With the pace thing I think there is a parallel with Markovic. For me they look slow at times because they aren't mentally at the pace of the PL.
I find LVGs comments and the critique of United quite confusing. Essentially his tactics seem to be to take the pace out of the game and wait for mistakes. So pace is rather a non-issue until the opponent gives you a chance. I know I'm over simplifying but it is a template than fits in a cartoon way all of the LVG teams I remember watching."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Haven't followed LVG too much so can't comment on that. Memphis could still come good though, maybe next season under a different manager.Originally posted by dww View Post

It's just nice that it isn't us who is waiting for one of the leagues highest profile signings to stop looking like a complete clogger for once.Originally posted by The_weatherman View PostHaven't followed LVG too much so can't comment on that. Turned 21 this year.
Transfer fee aside, that puts him a year younger than Teixeira and a year older than Origi.
Myself I reckon he has tons of talent and I hope he reaches his potential at his next club, but him being written off at this point is a bit of a joke.
I think he joined the wrong club in the summer for the level he is currently at. The expectations at the Mancs are even higher than our own and a young player who does not hot the ground running will have no patience shown to him there imo.
Would have loved if we had gotten him in the summer, mainly because of how things have turned out in terms of management, as he has the sort of qualities to excel under a manager like Klopp.
He is strong, quick, skillful, and has a touch of a nasty streak in him. What he is not right now, imo, is ready to carry a massive team, but put him in with some clever ball users and he would look a real threat again. At PSV he had guys who, by Dutch league standards, could move the ball quickly from midfield to attack and who could up the tempo of the game to suit a quick direct player like Memphis. At the Mancs they often look as laboured and turgid as we did under Rodgers last season (albeit with a more cohesive defensive line).
I have little doubt that there is a very good player in Memphis, but am quite happy for him not to become that player at the Mancs.I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

I agree 100%. Hope he ****s off from there before he finds his feet or they get a new manager in.Originally posted by Jaco_Pastorious View PostTurned 21 this year.

No - it has a distinct purpose and the topic has been pretty well adhered to.Originally posted by Assassin View PostMods shouldnt this thread be merged into the scummy manc thread"The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

He seems to be a bit of a dickhead which won't help him. I read somewhere about Giggs having to give him a warning about something or other. Needless to say as Balotelli proves, you can have all the talent but you won't be a top player if your attitude stinks.
EDIT:- What red g said! Us G's stick together
