    Illarramendi [Illarramendi]

Liverpool Close to Finalising €22m Deal for Real Madrid's Asier Illarramendi
Liverpool have upped their offer for Asier Illarramnedi to*€22m and, according to Spanish media source*MARCA, it will be enough to bring the Spanish international to Merseyside.

The Reds have been tracking the Real Madrid midfielder for a number of months now, but their initial bid of*€15m was immediately rejected by the La Liga side. Real are hoping to recoup as much of the*€32m that they paid for Illarra, when they signed him from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2013.

However, it now seems that Liverpool's latest offer of*€22m will be sufficient and*the*25-year-old*may soon be on his way to Melwood*to discuss personal terms.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has already made three signings so far; bringing in both James Milner and*Danny Ings on free transfers from Manchester City and Burnley respectively, as well as the capture of young Charlton Athletic defender Joe Gomez. Yet, the potential arrival of Illarramendi would represent their first big money move of the summer.

With Steven Gerrard moving to the MLS and the likes of Lucas Leiva and Joe Allen failing to overly*impress*last campaign, it is hardly*surprising*that Rodgers wants to bring in an established holding*midfielder to fill*the*void.

Illarramanedi was considered a huge talent when he left Sociedad for the Spanish capital a couple of years ago, but he*has*been unable to break into the first team, finding himself*behind Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Sami Khedira in*the*pecking*order.

A move to the Premier League with Liverpool would be*the*perfect opportunity for the Spanish*international to reignite his career, but the final decision will be left with former Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, who is now in charge of Los Blancos, as to whether Illarra has a part to play for his side next season.*

Never been impressed with this lad when i've seen him. I'd prefer if we just kept Lucas and put the funds into getting some goals into the team.

There's a reason no one is jumping on the Illara bandwagon and that's because he's mediocre. Too lightweight and nothing special in his work rate.

Just Benteke left and I'm officially joining Bender and weatherman in the Rodgers/FSG out campaign.

He was highly rated at U21 level, indeed he was good but Illarramendi wouldn't be the first good player who made the big move too soon and suffered stage-fright.

Consider our own Jordan Henderson who was the proverbial rabbit in the headlights for 18 months.

I can't see his name without hearing Moyes' butchered rendition. Please dont bring him here. It'll be the cause of much discomfort with that haunting echo bouncing around inside my skull

We only sign English players they said.

Our scouts only watch match of the day they said.

Now we are linked with a foreign lad deemed good enough not long ago by the mighty Madrid to sign and he's no good, enough to make me want to join the Rodgers out ******s, they said. What the **** is going on here lads? Seriously.

I've not been massively impressed to date, but then I'm me. He's a lot more appealing than the rest of the **** we've been linked to (or signed) so far so hopefully it happens. Feeding off Madrid's scraps is as good as it gets.

Never seen him play, is he a defensive midfielder in the traditional sense or more of a deep laying midfielder like Alonso?
