The lack of consistency is bizarre.

I am sure the club knew before they put in an official bid the asking price of Shakthar. I do agree that every club starts of with a bid which is lower than the asking price. But why are we even bothering bidding a price which is 33% lower than the asking price which is sure to be rejected. Why start so low when the outcome is certain. Has this strategy ever worked - Lallana, Lovren, Benteke?

Sod's law, a player who is probably going to blossom somewhere else is in grasp but we just **** it up. Anyway, here's to signing Vardy this summer for £35m

I was hoping this would have been the first....

Unreal if we actually sent Ayre over there with a bid which was just insulting to the Shaktar board and we thought we'd tie up a deal much lower. Especially when we have a history of dealing with difficult clubs in that region and we know what they can be like.

It's either complete and utter incompetence or we were given the right signals and they (Shaktar) changed their mind and played hardball.

The press and James Pearce seems to think it the latter. Given our record on transfers, I am convinced it's the former...

Coutinho, Clyne, Ings (subject to the actual tribunal fee being decided!) and er Sturridge!

              I think I'd add
              Can (based on reports)
              Sakho (Had been PSG captain)
              Moreno (We haggled well)
              Vive la France

I'll give you Can, Moreno was still expensive at 12 million though obviously cheaper than 20 which really was an attempted piss-take. Sakho maybe, I didn't know enough about him to say if 17 million was right or wrong.

And spending exorbitant fees on bang average players is exactly the reason why we should be cautious now! As Kev said, whilst he looks like he has all the tools, and is scoring a shedload right now; it's a piss poor league and it's not like he's been doing it his whole career. £38m is a ****ton of money with those points in mind

£25m seems like a reasonable amount to me. We probably do need to overpay due to our current standing, but still. I can totally understand the caution

I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"

Yeah happy with that decision if true, well overpriced imo, Shakhtar can **** off and screw someone that can afford to be screwed.

We/Klopp can spend the money more wisely in the summer.

Everywhere you look in football today people are looking to get one over on another, it's a bit ****.

He said doesn't sound like a bad deal, £17m nowadays for a France international who had been captain of PSG, to me at least, doesn't sound bad.

                      Benteke - £32m
                      Lallana - £25m
                      Carroll - £35m
                      Lovren - £20m

They to me sound bad, even Mignolet at £8m was it? At the time didn't seem bad, maybe not the right player but price wise it wasn't over the top.

Three of those were really wanted by Rodgers.

                        What was he thinking?

Probably thinking if he could get them in a side with Borini, Williams, Sigurdsson, Dempsey and Bertrand that we could probably stay in the league.

The owners can't be accused of not backing their man. I look forward to seeing what Klopp can do with some cash.

We told Villa we wouldn't pay full whack in the summer as was widely reported at the time before we went and paid full whack a while after. Its another tactic in something that's probably far from over yet. I doubt we will pay full whack this time though.

I am a massive Klopp fan but there is no evidence to suggest he is a transfer market guru and was key in buying all the gems Dortmund had. Michael Zorc was their DOF and had the biggest input into finding these players.

We have to remember that all parties at Liverpool (transfer committee and Rodgers) were supposed to agree to buy players so even though we know Rodgers pushed for the overpriced dross () the transfer committee are guilty by association! They still remain so hopefully with Klopp's knowledge of the Bundesliga they will have it covered between them.

I'd love if FSG went back to their original plan and hired a DOF in the summer and Klopp would go back to the structure he had in Germany. Zorc or Monchi would be the best signing we could make this summer.

Oh and I just remembered all the excellent players we missed out on were 100% transfer committee (micky ryan, konolo, costa, salah etc) picks so we'll be fine.
