Yeah, why shouldn't he move? There was no guarantee that we were coming back for him, the Chinese met the asking price and very likely pay good salary.

We had three Icelandic internationals playing in China recently, there is just one left now, Gudjohnsen stopped there for a few months and a guy named Vidar Kjartanson spent the last months there before moving in January, I think players don't stop there for long, got the impression from his interview he wanted back to Europe.

What's his mentality got to do with it. This guy grew up in Brazil. He probably had as much intention of playing for Liverpool as he had for playing in Ukraine or China. I.e probably none.

People seem to be applying a very definition of "wanting success" or "mentality" based on their own biases and preconceptions.

Footballers, like the rest of us, don't work for free. They go where the best offer is, for them and their ambitions.

And if being successful is a criteria, why would he want to join a mid table premier league team? Maybe, just maybe, because they would be willing to pay him more than anyone else.

Footballers from Brazil don't generally come to Europe to win trophies. They generally come because they can earn ****loads more than if they stayed at home. There are hundreds of them doing it. Only small minority end up winning many trophies.

I'm certainly not saying he has a connection with LFC or should have one, and I'm certainly not saying he should play for free. It would be naive to believe that.

However, the vast majority of South American footballers want to play in Europe - why? Sure there is a lot of money to made but it also contains the best leagues in the world, the most prestige, the chance to test one's self against the best in the world.

I'd suggest Teixeira by making this highly lucrative move to China has shown he's not particularly bothered about testing himself against the best players in the world, in the most competitive competitions and instead, he's happy to play in an inferior league for vast sums of money.

Signing for Jiangsu Suning isn't a sign of ambition.

The big thing for him was to get out if Ukraine where Donesk is in the middle of a warzone! If he can get £185k per week while doing that then good luck to him because he wasn't getting it from us. He could break his leg next week and his career is over.

I get what you are saying about ambition but it wasn't like it was us or them. The price was set at €50m and we didn't meet it. I reckon he'll spend max 18 months in China, make a fortune there and move to Europe after that - prob to Chelsea!
