Does VAR have access to all the camera angle and use them to make the decision? Because the angle of the Robertson pen in the match thread shows him play the ball and then the Napoli player going down after, surely they can't have seen that angle and thought it was a pen? But if they don't have access to that why don't they?

What's the point in having the ability to judge someone a cemtimeter offside, but you can't overturn an incorrect yellow card or overturn a penalty that TV shows is a clear dive?
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Noble defence, but you're wrong. Lol.

It wasn't a clear referee's error. That's what it boiled down to. I can see why they've given it.

I didn't want it, and my concerns were that not enough thought had gone into how it was implemented, I think those have been proven, people who wanted VAR wanted it to get the big decisions right and it isn't doing that.

Yesterday I can understand why it wasn't used but again that was a game changing decision that it couldn't be used to look at. But today it was used and still got the wrong decision.

Surely a better use, would be to ask the ref for a second look on a screen? I half agree its not fair for some cunt in a studio to overrule but why cant the actual real ref get a second look? He might still get it wrong but at least theres the opportunity for him to hold his hands up.

Of course it was. Unless the VAR was looking for an excuse not to over-turn it. As they are refs there is a conflict of interest.

The obvious error rule is nonsense. All the VAR should consider is was it a penalty with the benefit of the better view. What the on field ref thought shouldn't come into it.

The problem in a nutshell. It was implemented for a reason, and it's failing.

At least there was a review. It there wasn't any VAR there wouldn't have been a possible reprieve. People should accept that it's not flawless and with time the process will improve.

Robertson played the ball, there may have been some contact but contact doesn't necessarily mean penalty.

Because it would take ages. And there is no need. Just let the VAR intervene whenever he wants and make his ruling final. It should take seconds.

People should expect it to significantly reduce the number of refereeing errors in games, and it doesn't. And it's all about how it's being used. They've been assessing for at least two years and have implemented a failing system, there's no excuse.

I welcome it being used sparingly. But penalty decisions get reviewed as a matter of course and those 2 examples I gave are as obvious as they get.

What's the point in reviewing it if everyone can see that it's not a penalty but the decision is not being overturned because it's not 'clear' or 'obvious' enough.

Everyone can see that it's not a penalty and it you look at that footage posted in the match thread no one would give it.

Indeed, it's implementation that is the issue, not the fact it exists. As I think you're inferring, yesterday we wish VAR had been used more and today we wished there was no need for something to be clear and obvious when it is used.
