Linesman flags for offside, almost everyone stops playing and Shelvey puts it past the keeper. VAR gives the goal.

That was poor by SU even though linesman error. They know the rules, they have to keep playing. Think they would all take responsibility in the dressing room afterwards rather than blame external factors.
On positive note, VAR rules out a blatant offside goal for Arsenal last night which would have been harsh on Brighton.

That's all on 100% SU. Wilder can cry all he likes about VAR, and people only do it when it goes against them.Originally posted by Kenneth View PostLinesman flags for offside, almost everyone stops playing and Shelvey puts it past the keeper. VAR gives the goal.

But the alternative here is the linesman flags a perfectly fine attack off. In his defence assistant reffing is the hardest to do, i'd say near impossible with any real degree of accuracy.
Play to the whistle, its not hard... kids can do it. Wilder also said Newcastle did a number on them, that's when he should have stopped talking.

Correct me if I'm wrong as I've watched on my mobile but isn't the linesman on the far side and don't the SU players stop before they even look across or are they responding to the 4th official on the near touchline? If they are then they could be forgiven for thinking the offside's been awardedOriginally posted by labourRed View PostThat's all on 100% SU. This is the reason VAR was bought in, a perfect example of technology correcting human error.
Carroll onside
Shelvey carries on playing
SU decided they were reffing the game
Lino ****ed up & was saved by VAR
Imagine if it had been disallowed; Sheff U are only chasing one goal & could quite easily have scored & maybe even got a second; huge implications for both teams & other teams in the relegation scrap.
Finally VAR worked !!!

Defenders have been playing to the flag since they were 6 years old. An offside flag has equalled a whistle for 100 years. The idea that this change is no big deal, just play to the whistle, is clearly nonsense. Sure, everybody is equally affected by the rule change, and they require players to ignore the flag, but if everyone is supposed to ignore the flag, why wave the bloody flag? Who is it a signal for?
If the linesman is sure, wave the flag and stop the game. If not, don't and let VAR sort it out. This approach makes no sense.Last edited by Kenneth; 06-12-19, 11:44 AM.Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

I mentioned something about the difference between what the prem linesmen do and the euro lino's, as mentioned by martin keown on motd, there needs to be a standardisation.
No good English linesman flagging and then letting var correct, or euro lino's not flagging and letting var sort it.
So why even have a linesman in europe?Last edited by baitman; 06-12-19, 12:17 PM.removing all the weak links makes us stronger

It is play to the whistle, not play to the flags for sure.Originally posted by dom9 View PostFlag is for the referee, no?
Defenders have been hopefully glancing towards linesman for many years, but the ref controls the game.
I'm no fan of VAR but in this instance think the team ****ed up. The keeper would not get in trouble if he had concentrated and tried to make a save no matter what had gone on before.Modifying post.

Exactly, i played football for over a decade, you may call for an offside (raise an arm), but until the ref blows the whistle play doesn't stop. Refs can overrule a linesman, - you'd be foolish to play to the linesman.Originally posted by Buzzo View PostIt is play to the whistle, not play to the flags for sure.
