I have said this before but I am not convinced the technology is good enough to make these really tight calls accurately there are so many things that need to be spot on, different cameras sync'd to the same clock, perspective of each camera determined accurately the correct frame being identified by the officials for when the ball was played, the lines being drawn in the right place (and at the right angle) to sub cm accuracyThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

It's ruined the game but there's too much money involved.
I was thinking this too, the other day- looking at the var cameras where they’re moving between frames, it looks like 24/30 frames per second. Even the iPhone is capable of doing 60 frames per second. They should need to show that it’s offside in 2 consecutive frames- before/after the ball is kicked.
Even if they were using high speed cameras, it’s still a manual process to select the exact frame where the ball is kicked. When a player kicks a ball, his foot is prob in contact with the ball for 2/3 frames. When do they count that it would be offside- at the point where the foot first makes contact with the ball or at the point that the ball is no longer in contact with the foot?I don't tip

There was this piece from a newspaper article (I think) a while back

Which means with that level of dubiety if the lines are basically touching the benefit of the doubt should go with the attack.
It seems set up to rule goals offside not onside.
The random execution of VAR and the lack of someone being able to take control of it as a solution is laughable and surely just exacerbates every single escalating issue.Modifying post.

the margin of error due to their technology limitations and human error is much larger than the margins that they’re ruling something offside.
I don't tip

This seems as good a place as any to put this

Also interesting that so many aren't allowed to ref our games or Everton games, but relatively few other clubs are mentioned for other refs not being allowed to officiate.Last edited by Exiled_red; 23-04-24, 08:08 PM.The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

It's interesting what is written and what is implied from it. Both Tierney and Bond are from Wigan, Bond can't do Liverpool or Everton matches which implies he must be a fan of one or the other if it was geographic reasons Tierney wouldn't be able to do us or Everton either. Assuming Bond is a fan of us or Everton the reason he can't do Wigan matches has to be geographic reasons, but the greater manchester refs don't seem to be excluded from the Manchester clubs games, Altrincham and Wythenshawe are both less than 10 miles from Manchester so how large is the geographical exclusion zone? The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.
