Gilmour is brilliant alright. Remember his Chelsea debut v us he got motm then too. Proper leader as well

Alot of people seem to be calling for Southgate to drop one of the DM's and play a more attacking lineup presumably something like a 4-1-4-1 with an attacking 5 of Kane, Sterling, Foden, Grealish and Mount. For me while that looks more attacking it exasperates the problem, just sticking more of your better players on the pitch with no idea how to get the best out of them. For me they need to take more control of the midfield and enable them to control/dominate the game which they haven't done in either game so far. For me they need Jordan Henderson in there, but I can imagine the stick both Henderson and Southgate will get from the Ingerland fans. Just my thoughts, not that I give a ****, for me the best part of an international tournament is the changing attitudes of Ingerland supporters and the media

As Liverpool know better than anyone, in such a narrow formation you need your fullbacks to overlap all the way up the pitch. It is they who should be putting in most crosses. Reece James and Luke Shaw do not have that in them. The inclusion of James in particular highlights Southgate’s conservative nature. He was worried about Scotland’s left side so picked James for his supposed defensive ability, but he was atrocious with the ball. Barely went over half way and literally always stopped and passed backwards, effectively killing any hope of decent service into the box for Kane from England’s right side, and giving Robbo an easy ride. England shouldn’t need to cripple their own attacking threat because Scotland have a couple of good players on that side.

Kane clearly isn’t fit and shouldn’t be playing, and Sterling shouldn’t be in the squad because he’s ****e.

Grealish is overrated. He's good with the ball and gets a lot of free kicks but I'd be curious to see his output in final pass and goals in the PL and I'm pretty sure he's not great. But "he's the most fouled player in the PL"

I’d always thought Grealish was decent. But it’s clear why he is ‘the most fouled player in the PL’. He goes down if he gets so much as a strong look in his direction. He’s a massive diver.

"Jack Grealish came off the bench and won four fouls for England; the most by a substitute at EURO 2020, and the most by a substitute in a EUROs match since Éder won five for Portugal in the EURO 2016 final vs France. Taster. #ENG #EURO2020"

It wasn’t exactly a dirty game. He just falls over. A lot.

He has nailed the ‘falling over arms in the air whilst looking at the ref’ move.

Thought O'Donnell was doing his fair share of that too late on.

Yeah but O’Donnell is a very limited SPL journeyman. He will do what it takes. Grealish is supposed to be the second coming of Gazza. I expected more than him just going down every time someone went near him? Foden didn’t like the attention he was getting either.

Southgate has painted himself into a corner with some selections. Rice and Phillips were anonymous in midfield. England need someone to control the game.

I also feel that Sancho should be in ahead of Sterling.

And Kane isn’t getting his tournament boosting run of penalties like he did last Tournament. More questions than answers for Southgate so he is going to have to improve the team fast in the knockout phase.

You must be mistaken English players don't dive they skillfully draw or buy fouls from the opposition

Why do you think Foden dyed his hair?

To be fair though this is where Southgate needs to earn his money, England have been really poor so far but somehow find themselves in a strong position and haven't got themselves working as a team yet. There are a number of players who are probably all at a similar level that he could change around in Sterling, Sancho, Grealish, Foden and Mount, add to that the likes of Rashford, if he can put a front three that works well together and get a midfield that can dominate games England could do well at this tournament. All the usual top teams have been fairly unimpressive you feel this could be a year where an average team could win it, and England excel at being average
