The defender is never ever getting anywhere near the ball. Would be given as a FK everywhere else on the pitch.

If you stick your leg across the path of another player for contact, you’re fouling him, not being fouled. Choosing to get fouled shouldn’t even be a thing. It’s just sad that it’s so ingrained in the culture now that not one person on the BBC panel could even fathom the notion that tripping the defender might not win you a penalty.
That Scottish pundit worded it terribly and didn’t help his case.

I agree with what you’re saying generally about that tactic you’re describing there, but there’s a difference between that and trying to protect the ball.

Here a bobble holds up the ball, which forces Armstrong to check his run. I think he’s just trying to get the ball to run in front of him while also shield it from the oncoming defender. I don’t think he’s deliberately put his leg somewhere to draw contact like those Bruno/Gordon examples.

He shat the bed first touch wise, but doesn’t change the end result.

Surely worthy of a VAR check and let the ref have another look.

Agree with you there. Looking for the contact instead of trying to shoot
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Never understood that expression. Its up there with "unplayable".
In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

Very hard to tell what strikers intention was but either way he checked his run forcing the defender into the back of him/ or himself into the defender.

Defender doesn't make a proactive move to play the man, I don't think that's a penalty.

Slow it down to frame by frame and you can generate any narrative. But if you get cleaned out from behind it’s a penalty for sure.

As mentioned and caveated, not that we deserved a ****ing thing.
yeah it's was a very obvious penalty imo. You guys were **** and didn't deserve to got through but yeah ya got ****ed over.

“Cleaned out” that’s hilarious! Never a pen, which is why it wasn’t given.

Whether you think it was a clear penalty, or just the striker trying to con the ref, I think its fair to say there's no way the ref could have made that call in the moment. VAR should have sent him to the screen to see the replay, at the very least.

I think the Euro's so far have been bloody boring, thought Hungary might have been a dark horse, but they've been ****e - That Martin Adam looks like he won a competition to be there.

I think Southgate has been found out as an international manager and his tactics are archaic for a squad like England has!

Who the **** would leave out a player like Cole Palmer who has 43 goal involvements when your team is crying out for some goals & you have players like TAA who can provide assists & passes on a sixpence yet negate them to bit part roles in your team.

Just take out Foden, pick the other best players in their club positions, release the shackles on the players & tell them to sort it out by using their club form & watch them go.
Nope, don't need anger management, you just need to stop pissing me off!

He was found out long ago, it’s ridiculous that’s he kept his job as long as he has.

The real problem is the FA, it needs completely overhauled.

Dan Ashworth from the FA, and he's about to become head of footballing at Man U.
