England v Netherlands would make for an intriguing tie.

Yep he’s clueless that’s for sure. He persevered with Kane when you’ve got young fresh players like Cole & Gordon, Bowen even. They all deserve a crack at it instead of flogging a dead horse that is Harry Kane. If he wanted to closer to like for like give Toney 1/2 an hour & let’s see what he can offer.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I was there tonight, let me tell you England sucks. But far worse were the fans, heard during the anthem and then between 60min and 70min for a little bit, despite filling out 75% of the stadium. And they have the balls to boo the players and throw cups at them, embarrassing.

            Kane stealing a living.

Must start to get boring as **** for the likes of Toney and Palmer. Southgate seems to pick teams on star power rather than form.
No wonder that Ben White turned his back on international football.

Gordon getting only 5 minutes was a disgrace, should have started.

I've not watched any matches but seen on the news that there were boos at a couple of England matches.

Agree, it's totally embarrassing. What happened to getting behind the team and actually supporting them? How is booing gonna help anything?

It's baffling to me, particularly at a major tournament.
              Oh I don't know.

Have to say I did enjoy the randomness of watching a lone England supporter in an advanced state of inebriation barely able to walk but managing to sing

                Englands ****
                Because of Southgate

over and over to the tune of the Pet Shop Boys Go West and despite his inability to walk in a straight line he was able to sing quite clearly in an accent that would not have sounded out of place in an episode of Eastenders.

Made even more surreal by the fact he had an English top on along with the red and white face paint as he made his way along the Grand Parade in Cork city centre.

Nary a hint of another England supporter in the area. Just this one guy lamenting the woes of his team for all to witness.

Was like watching the first act of T.S Eliot's The Waste Land play out for a modern audience.
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

Southgate’s post match comments about being confused by the negativity pretty much explain the booing alone. Fans expect and deserve better than what the team are producing and Southgate’s choices are damaging to their nation’s prospects, yet he continues as though it’s all hunky dory. The fans are trying to force his hand.

I'd love to see some stats about chance creation with and without Trent in the side, I expected Southgate to put Trent on sooner at right back, Walker wasn't offering anything going forward really. Unbelievably boring side, and an awful group too. Was cheering for Slovenia in the end really.

Kenneth saying Kenneth things of course, but imagine if we were booed off the pitch in Istanbul? It's unthinkable.

I don't even recall boos during Hodgson's spell as LFC manager.

None of this excuses Southgate, or his clear limitations, but support your team in the stadium for goodness sake.

He's by far the most creative one in the side.

                          Good take.

Former England star Chris Waddle has nailed it with his assessment of Trent Alexander-Arnold - slamming Gareth Southgate's decision to play the #LFC man in a midfield two.

"I don’t understand why Gareth Southgate has made that decision," he says. "Trent has tremendous passing range, and playing for Liverpool, we’ve seen him hit those lovely balls from right back or when he’s stepped into the midfield.

"The difference is he has willing runners that stretch the play. Mo Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz... they will run all day for him. At England, there are no runners, so his greatest strength – his passing range – in that midfield role is completely wasted. He’s playing it simple because he has to – all these England players in front of him, except for Saka sometimes, want the ball to feet.

"Trent’s a wonderful player, but his best attribute is being wasted in this midfield role for England. If we’re going to play Trent in midfield, then Southgate needs to get more runners into his team. We need a player with the mindset to think ‘when Trent’s on the ball, I'm going to run behind my full-back because he’ll find me’."

How is half time in a CL final at all comparable to the game last night?

Anyway, it’s akin to “hodgson for England”, it’s a message, not at the players, but at the manager and his bosses. Done in a low stakes game at a time when there still opportunity to change things and be successful. There’s a point where happy clapping isn’t considered enough. Does the fan reaction make it more difficult for Southgate to pick the same nonsense XI next game, I’d say yes, so it was probably effective.

Boos at half time in a major tournament (as well as full time)?

It's completely counter productive, and it's mental.

Anyway, I don't care either way. I'm not an England supporter. I'm just baffled.
