It’s as bad (if not worse) than anything Hodgson produced for us. Think you’d need to endure a game to appreciate that hollow cheering won’t affect a thing.

Anyway, it’s akin to “hodgson for England”, it’s a message, not at the players, but at the manager and his bosses. Done in a low stakes game at a time when there still opportunity to change things and be successful. There’s a point where happy clapping isn’t considered enough. Does the fan reaction make it more difficult for Southgate to pick the same nonsense XI next game, I’d say yes, so it was probably effective.

      Ah, already covered

It's completely counter productive, and it's mental.

Anyway, I don't care either way. I'm not an England supporter. I'm just baffled.
I can see it may be counter-productive, but from the spectator point of view, a spectator who is probably forking out close to a grand for one game of footy(including flights, accomodation, food etc) I reckon they is perfectly entitled to voice displeasure at the tedium that is being presented by the manager and players.

It's almost a shame that the rest of the group were so bad, cos Southgate probably feels quite justified in the approach he has taken, top of the group and no losses. But really, that sort of football won't win the tournament and unfortunately he won't change it cos it can be said it has worked so far.

How much is it costing the fans to be there is a question that should be considered.

If the very highly paid players aren't producing on the pitch, some dissent is inevitable, imo.

And in addition to that, why flog the same players by making them play 3 games in 9 days, particularly when you’ve already qualified.
And he promptly threw him under the bus when subbing him at half time.

Southgate has confused not only the players but I think himself, over complicated stuff and over though it. He's backed himself into a corner, stood by players who weren't playing or were playing crap, became ruthless and chopped them, and then brought in players which don't conform to what he wants.

the thing is, he can probably fluke his way into a final if the draw is kind .1 Madness
I make no apologies, this is me

Hopefully this conversation has removed some of the bafflement and you’re now able to comprehend why it happened.

And they need someone more mobile than Kane. I'd prefer to see two up front - Toney and Gordon for instance.

Watkins is in the squad too.

I don't think Southgate has the balls to drop Kane or Bellingham tbh. Playing with Kane is like playing with 10 men 99% of the time.

It's such a boring team. No movement. No energy. No pace. Whilst also still being less than the sum of it's parts.

Quite an achievement. Really hope he does end up managing Man United.

I don't even recall boos during Hodgson's spell as LFC manager.

None of this excuses Southgate, or his clear limitations, but support your team in the stadium for goodness sake.

Instead of booing or calling for him to go we chanted 'Hodgson for England'

The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

                            BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Though for the most part I do agree with ya, Dom.

Whistle to whistle be fully behind the team. If they are playing badly, then try to be part of a wall of sound to gee them up or at the very least make things uncomfortable for the other team.

Personally I would find it pointless paying to see a team or individual and then spend time being part of the problem if the team were on a rubbish run. My own mindset would be if I got tickets to a game after the team had been on a poor run of games prior to that game, that maybe I am going to be lucky enough to be at the game where things turn around.

After a final whistle though........whilst I generally would not boo even then, I do think a case could be made in some circumstances to use that time to vent against owners/manager/players/wrong 'un tea bags .
I don't hate people. I just feel better when they aren't around.

It's a protest and a valid one. Either the message is for the players to put a bit more effort in or show some more courage, or it's the manager that needs to change things on the pitch.

Foden has returned to the uk due to an urgent family issue, likely his pregnant wife. Maybe Southgate will be rescued from himself by circumstance.
