Aye I agree totally.Originally posted by Phoenix07 View PostI've given it some more thought, and I hate a lot of things about England. I'm not a fan of nationalism anyway, and England just oozes it. I don't like what I perceive to be the culture in this country either. Given some of the stuff with Brexit too, and what I deem to be rising conservatism in the country, I'd be happy to see every England fan suffer every two years until the day I die. I see everyone coming together, pretending to be behind a common cause, but then the mask slips, and I'm left wondering what's the point. I don't want to be a part of this. One of the reasons I support Liverpool is because of my perception of the values of the club. England is the antitheses of Liverpool IMO, and a likeable squad of players and manager isn't going to change it. Managers and players go, but the fans remain.
It's not the fault of Southgate or the squad. Like I said, if I was living elsewhere, I'd probably be backing them, but living in this country over the years. I want England fans to suffer.
Now, I await this to be ripped to shreds.3rd place. Worst champions ever.

If you feel this way it's begs the question why you live in this country. You want England fans to suffer. So you want a load of people on here to suffer? Or you want the ones with the 3 lions tattooed on their arms to suffer? The kids? The flag wavers? I am completely non fussed about watching England. Barely gave a **** yesterday. But for you and the similar ones in your boat I kinda hope we win the bloody thing now.Originally posted by Phoenix07 View PostI've given it some more thought, and I hate a lot of things about England. Nationalism brings out the worst in people. Globally. Dick swinging ego ****e. Wars, whatever.
I'm in Spain at the moment. Not loads of Brits here (thankfully), but I'm often ashamed to be classed as one of them.
We're becoming a small minded, insular and intolerant island. Is that something to be proud of? If it is, you can keep it.Oh I don't know.

Tangent as usual. I'm not a fan of England is great, **** the rest. But there's a fair few people who take some enjoyment in the country they were born in, winning a game of football, cricket, rugby whatever without being tarred with the same brush. If there are people that are absolutely passionate about being English then maybe the rest of us who are non fussed should take a step back and let them go about their business. It's snobbery a lot of it. The majority of flag bearers and chest thumpers are of either working or non working class. Why sneer at those less educated? Not all of them are before someone jumps onit. That's hardly inclusive. That's not very liberal either. It's quite conservative to look down ones nose.Originally posted by dom9 View PostWhy live in any country? You've got to live somewhere.

More English people travel than ever before. Horizons have hardly ever been broader. Go to Benidorm and magaluf you see the worst of the English. There are plenty of places to go where people are happy to see you and being English isn't a negative.Last edited by BobTheCharmer; 19-06-18, 08:07 PM.Always borrow money from a pessimist. The same reason why many people didn't leave when Trump was elected in the US. It's home, regardless of what they/me/we think of it. I live here, and will hold my alternate views. I am a citizen by birth, and if I see something wrong with the country, I will point it out - as a citizen - and exercise whatever means I have necessary to change it i.e. vote, present alternative viewpoints. Why should I leave the country if I, as a citizen of said country, am not happy with it, and I wish to change things through peaceful means - that which I believe will benefit everyone? Perhaps I view England fans wrongly, as a symbol of what is wrong in society, but my experiences in being with, and among England fans, has been incredibly bad, and largely reflects what I see as social negatives too.Originally posted by BobTheCharmer View PostIf you feel this way it's begs the question why you live in this country. And you know what I'll do if England win it? (hey, I've said it for months I think they will, unlike most England fans). I'll bury my head in my work, switch off the TV for a bit, and look forward to the new league season, where my only footballing passion lies - Liverpool Football Club.

I think you have a pretty perverse view of the people who follow their national team at a world cup. And to wish misery on so many people based on so little, half of whom are probably kids, seems pretty unhealthy to me.Originally posted by Phoenix07 View PostThe same reason why many people didn't leave when Trump was elected in the US. Young team, a world class goalscorer, and a manager who is trying different things. If they don't win it, they'll get close.Originally posted by Norbs View PostReminds me of my favourite recent meme along these lines
England are 12/1 to win the World Cup. For those of you that don't understand betting it means that if you bet £10 you will lose £10
England aren't going to get anywhere near winning it
