I dont think it will happen to be honest. The fee and the player do not make me think it will happen. I think the fee is just a bit too much for him, Bent is a quality player and i suppose when you look at some of the other fees being touted around:12Mil Crouch 8.5Mil Johnson etc i can see where it is coming from.
One thing is for certain, we do need the players who can do it in the premiership, and nt just europe. Bellamy is starting to come into form now like he did last year, he had only scored 6 before christmas for blackburn if i remember. Kuyt looks like he will be able to. Crouch can imo anyway if given a regular start. Can they do is consistently though and can they get you the 20 or there or abouts. I think bent could but he would have to play every game, dont forget the last 2 seasons he has been the main man at Charlton playing every game nearly weather in form or out, that is one of the main reasons why he can do, if he only plays half the games is it fair to think he'll score it.
I wouldnt mind is taking a look at Dean Ashton if only he had a full season this year i think he would of excelled, really rate him as a player.

I feel we're getting a bit ridiculous here and arguing for arguments sake. Bent is a very good player, and one that would play well for Liverpool (whether he would fit into our current strike force is another matter). He is not worth 13.5 million, but I would bet my bottom dollar thats a figure Speedy has picked out of the air to create controversy. He's young and English so will be overpriced, that much we know, but we were heavily linked in the summer and possibly will be again should Charlton be relegated. I would think a figure of 8-9 million would be closer to the mark if Charlton get relegated and he continues to score goals.

Carrick is a good player, Utd have played a hell of a lot better with him in the side than they did last year without him. £18mill was a laughable figure. But again he's young, English and Utd have a history of paying over the odds for players, so its hardly surprising Spurs hiked up the price, particularly considering they didnt need the money from the sale. Whether the improvement he has caused in their team was worth £18million is another debate. But if they win the league I doubt you'll find a scum fan who will tell you it wasnt.

I think we should also sign Darren Bent's team-mate Luke Young who is a great defender. Then we should bring back John Welsh from Hull who is looking class albeit at the bottom of the Championship. He would provide good cover whilst Momo is injured.

So in summary, I'm hoping our January signings will be Young, Welsh and Bent...
