Really people cmon...get some perspective here. Its the frigging Carling Cup. Ive seen some knobhead calling for Rafa to be sacked on 6CM We played alot of youngsters, who dont look ready, but this is the perfect opportunity for them to play...a nothing competition. Sure they were shown up by the Arsenal youngsters, but it was bound to happen.

I had a feeling we would get smashed, and it turned out to be that way. Do i care? sort of...its not pretty to look at. But does it matter? no! Why? because we have bigger things to worry about. namely Barca and catching Chelsea.

As for rafa being sacked that's overreaction
but nothing cup, i was hoping for one more visit to Cardiff, i like going Cardiff, i like finals
Yes we have bigger things to play for and we need confidence not 2 defeats at home hows that going to help us.
As for the kids, play them but with experienced players along side who'll help them.
Our kids know defeat Arsenal's have battered the unbeatable Liverpool at home. Which youngsters have the better chance of winning the PL?

to be honest though fella, i can see what you've done by saying most of those have no future, which i agree is true, but if we hadn't played them tonight, we literally would have had nobody to play.

probably 3/4 of those arsenal players are not first teamers, but also have a future at the club.

Lets have a look at who played;

Dudek - No future at the club.
Peltier - Not a right back and played like it.
Hyypia - well past his best, a liability against pace.
Paletta - barely played, looked heavy to me, needs to go out on loan.
Warnock - has no future here.
Guthrie - played out of position.
Aurelio - would like to see him given a run.
Gerrard - no need to comment here obviously.
Gonzalez - He needs a run of games but why isn't Rafa using him?
Bellamy - I would take £9m without blinking.
Fowler - sadly past his best and all but gone at the end of the season.

Gerrard aside a mediocre bunch.

Our first 11 is of a reasonably good standard, albeit without the necessary guile, goals and skill in the final third to be title contenders. And our squad depth is pretty poor in all honestly.

The answer is to buy 5 or 6 top players, forcing the likes of Finnan, Pennant, Gonzalez, Crouch, Bellamy, Garcia, Riise and Aurelio to the bench. And have good youngsters fill out the rest of the squad.

Easier said than done of course, but hopefully the Arabs lend a hand on that front.

I think most of your player assessments are right mate & I wouldn't be surprised if Rafa thought the same.

However, that makes tonight all the more hurtful. In a game which could lead to a final against chelsea, in a competition thats our only realistic chance of a trophy, he picked such an inadequate team.

I understand the need for squad rotation etc etc, but tonight was a night for a strong first 11, to press on in a competition in which we have a long & proud tradition. The team picked gave me the impression Rafa didn't really give a toss about the League Cup & I don't think thats the right attitude for us, particularly this season.

seriously its is a nothing competition....what prestige does it hold? its Chapionsleague, premier league, Fa cup.........and then Carling cup is the final little trophy clubs can claim. But every years major honors sit way way above it. Sure its nice to win a trophy...but FFS we are LIVERPOOL!!!!! we should be striving to win the Champions league and Premier league...not the bloody Carling Cup.

I wasn't there tonight. I had to make do with Sky T.V. I'm afraid. I thought that tonight couldn't get much worse from Saturday...HOW WRONG WAS I??!!

As for the booing at half time. That was wrong but when you just watched be beaten at Anfield by Arsenal on Saturday and then find ourselves 4-1 down at half time to their reserves I think that it's to be expceted that there'll be an good few disgruntled fans there.

It may be a nothing competition to you mate but its a nothing competition we've won 7 times. Some of LFC's very best teams won the League Cup & if it was good enough for them to bother with, its certainly good enough for the current team.
