Cos we need all the good players we can get.We ain't exactly swimming in a sea of talented ball players.His grandad was from Donegal and died recently which has made the boy all the more determined to play for us.I read today that Scotland still have 5 years to get him back.Don't know how mind.

Celtic/Rangers is used by a lot of people to show their bigotry, but not all. There is good Celtic and Rangers fans that stay away from all that ****e. Of ****ing course going to park head does not make you Irish. I was making a point that the lad was brought doing what a lot of Irish before him did and that was go to Celtic games.

I'm sure you'd feel similar if a couple of fairly promising Irish teenagers choose to play for Scotland because their grandfathers once ate haggis.

My Grandfather was Irish, but in no way shape or form do I consider myself to be Irish in anyway. So how can this kid?

TBH i dont mind the grandfather rule, because as was said, we havnt got much to choose from, population of about 4million is relatively small compared to other countries.

Why wouldn't we? England took John Barnes without a peep, we are more than entitled to use the rules to make the most of our small pool of talent. Christ if we were waiting 20 years for someone like that show pony Robbie Keane we'd be in big trouble!!!

If you ask me basing your nationality on your grandparent(s) is going too far. To be honest I reckon you should play for the country of your birth, or where you grew up. These Fifa rules are a joke. Some recent examples are a Nigerian playing for Poland and a Brazilian playing for Croatia. Ridiculous.

Good luck to this lad playing for Ireland. Still doesn't make him Irish or anywhere near it.
