That makes **** all sense. His grandad dying made him determined to play for Ireland? Huh?

I agree with Chuckles on this one. Him and McGeady can **** right off.

Turncoat mother****er like Houghton and ****face McGeady.

He's about as Irish as a sack of spuds.

I'm surprized the Irish put up with the fakes like Cascarino.
I am Irish and I would like to think if I had to emigrate to Scotland because I had no work and no money to feed my family, that my children and my children's children would remain Irish. The Irish were in Scotland to make a living not because they loved the place.

He was brought up with an Irish up bringing, his grandfather took him to celtic park, so I am sure he knows a more about Ireland than you give him credit for.

Cascarino playing for Ireland was a joke.
Did you see the size off those chickens?

Those who frequent places such as Parkhead and Ibrox use the Irish / British thing as a flag of conveniance in order to spew bile and hatred towards one another. Going to Parkhead does not make you Irish.

          Exactly.

Just round the corner from the Trongate there's a shop called "Timland" selling Celtic tat.

          It's pathetic.

Then there's the so called Rangers fans with their own watering hole - complete with UVF flags - round the corner from the old Patrick fire station.

Have any of these people been to Belfast or have a family connection to the struggle or old country?

For 99% of them no they bloody don't.

Celtic/Rangers is used by a lot of people to show their bigotry, but not all. There is good Celtic and Rangers fans that stay away from all that ****e. Of ****ing course going to park head does not make you Irish. I was making a point that the lad was brought doing what a lot of Irish before him did and that was go to Celtic games.

We'll agree to differ. Hs's a turn coat little ****e who's got no right, in my book, to choose to play for Ireland over the country he was born in.

I'm sure you'd feel similar if a couple of fairly promising Irish teenagers choose to play for Scotland because their grandfathers once ate haggis.

Would you like your son(not sure if you have one) to play for england if he was born there?

I think the lads got every right to play for Ireland.

It pisses me off when players choose another country because they can't get a game with the country of their birth but this lad presumably is good enough to play for either Ireland or Scotland.
He's chosen Ireland so must feel himself to be Irish rather than Scottish.

Exactly. Don't see the big deal myself. It's his bloody prerogative. His choice, and he's entitled to it.

I'm sure most Ireland fans don't want players with little connection to the actual country.

My Grandfather was Irish, but in no way shape or form do I consider myself to be Irish in anyway. So how can this kid?

But hey if he signs for us I hope he's another Gerrard.
TBH i dont mind the grandfather rule, because as was said, we havnt got much to choose from, population of about 4million is relatively small compared to other countries.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

Why wouldn't we? England took John Barnes without a peep, we are more than entitled to use the rules to make the most of our small pool of talent. Christ if we were waiting 20 years for someone like that show pony Robbie Keane we'd be in big trouble!!!

Where was Richard Gough from? Born in Sweden, lived in South Africa. What about Stuart McCall, born in England, Leeds in fact? Selected for their underage squads, did you stop supporting Scotland when they played for ye? And that's just 2 off the top of my head.

Come on man, we're small countrys with **** leagues, we have to take whatever we can get.
I like to lurk, if that's ok with you

                              Their parents were Scottish.

So there's at least a direct connection.

If you ask me basing your nationality on your grandparent(s) is going too far. To be honest I reckon you should play for the country of your birth, or where you grew up. These Fifa rules are a joke. Some recent examples are a Nigerian playing for Poland and a Brazilian playing for Croatia. Ridiculous.

Good luck to this lad playing for Ireland. Still doesn't make him Irish or anywhere near it.

About as Scottish as McCarthy is Irish. A farce really.
