    What?

My Conclusion that Despite winning the League Year after Year, The teams of the 70s and 80s weren't as invincible as people like to remember?

    or

It's a lot more difficult to win the League today than in the 70s and 80s as You cant afford to draw/lose as much as back then?

    or

Our overall performances currently are not as Bad as some make it out on here?

I agree that the overall standard has dropped because of financial imbalances between top and bottom, but you cant lose 6 or 7 games and draw a dozen and still win the League, like we often did in the past

It looks like the Champions still drop pts against Lower teams though

          Yep.

We're not fit to lace their boots.

The 78/79 Team and King Kenny's 87/88 Team I agree, but we are not far off the rest of them.

Our Current squad is a couple of Players short of becoming a Great side. Just wait and see

You've got to win the title to be a great side IMO. When we do that, then the comparrisons can be made.

I agree 100% - Without the EPL Title, Nothing else matters

You are correct about the competition in those days - WBA, QPR, Derby, Ipswich, Villa etc all challenged us for the Division One title - and failed.....

So if that little asshole Neville thinks that winning the league a few times nowadays when money has talked even compares with what LFC have achieved in a time when it didn't, he is wrong once again !!

I was watching ESPN and the second 4-3 against Newcastle, and some of the football we played was simply breathtaking. We ripped Newcastle apart, and with better finishing could have easily scored 7-8, against the side that finished 2nd that season. That team under Roy Evans was on the verge of greatness. But for weaknesses in key positions (especially David James), a lack of bite and mental inadequecies, that team would have been champions and be regarded as a great side. Probably better than any of Houllier's teams, despite lack of trophies.

Probably the last time we tried to play football (pass and move, on the ground...) instead of tactics. If Roy Evans had Fergie's bite we'd have probably won the Prem (IMO - before I get shot down).

They got close, but I always felt that the side lacked discipline more than anything else. Always felt like everyone were doing what they wanted.

When Ged arrived and started enforcing discipline, I was very optimistic. He built the team up and it culminated in the Treble season. I was convinced that we'd win the League after that, but unfortunately he spent the Money on the Wrong players and the rest is History
