Newcastle have revealed they have agreed a record 17m fee with Liverpool for England's 26-year-old Peter Crouch.

Reports have previously suggested Benitez would sell Crouch to Newcastle. But this transfer will surely come as a shock to many Liverpool fans who are losing their top goalscorer with 13 goals this campaign.

Rafa Benitez so far has refused to be drawn on whether he has a replacement lined up. "We will do our best, always, but there is not a lot of time left."
