Magpies agree shock Crouch transfer

Crouch has cost clubs £32.56m in transfer fees
Newcastle have revealed they have agreed a record 17m fee with Liverpool for England's 26-year-old Peter Crouch.
Reports have previously suggested Benitez would sell Crouch to Newcastle. But this transfer will surely come as a shock to many Liverpool fans who are losing their top goalscorer with 13 goals this campaign.

Rafa Benitez so far has refused to be drawn on whether he has a replacement lined up. "We will do our best, always, but there is not a lot of time left." Rafa added: "He (Crouch) is a fantastic player and has done very well for us. And we must thank him for this. Newcastle are getting a very, very good player."


Newcastle are expected to unveil record signing Peter Crouch this afternoon as their sole big-name signing of this transfer window.

Newcastle Chairman Freddy Shepherd confirmed they made an offer for to Liverpool at the start of the week.

in that case mate you must be very vacuous and very much lacking in the sense of humour department. i've just got my best mate (a newcastle fan) having sex wees because he thinks they've signed crouch. to me thats exactly what the point of a good wind up is. what fans or players is this going to 'get to?'

TBH, I was taken in by it myself. By the time I realised it was a wind up I'd already copied and posted it here.

I come back 10 mins later to a whole line of abusive posts (of which I have chosen to rise above), thats not was this community is about.

Some people really need to lighten up.

Best one was a PM i got calling me a ****... he went on to explain how he shouted 'the news' across the office (even though there was a meeting going on)... only for the lightbulb moment to kick in a few moments later.

The fact i actually managed to get a text about it from a mate (who i had no idea had my number) cracked me up all the more... he read it on some spur's site... and noticed my name in the URL
