"Everton have responded angrily to Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez branding the Toffees a "small club".
The Spaniard said after Saturday's 0-0 Merseyside derby: "When you play against the smaller teams at Anfield you know the game will be narrow."

Everton manager David Moyes was not happy with Benitez's comments.

Of course he wouldn't. There aren't any teams smaller than Neverton.

I reckon this is brilliant psychology from Rafa. All those smaller teams will have heard him say that. They won't be best pleased. It just might make them come here and have a go from now on = more points for us.

They are laughable, they really are. Everything they do reinforces their small-time status. When they're not sending videos to the FA complaining that they don't get enough penalties or releasing DVDs of their relegation exploits they're obsessing about us. Even this "People's Club" bollocks they revel in is supposed to be a dig at us yet only serves to emphasise the gulf between our status as a global force and theirs as a mediocre mid-table club.

Because I recall a certain Liverpool manager, who is considered a legend and has a statue in his honour outside our stadium, saying amongst other things about Everton that he would draw the curtains if they were playing in his garden, that Dixie Dean had more people at his funeral than Everton get on a Saturday, and that there are only two great teams in Liverpool: Liverpool and Liverpool Reserves.

Great post. Sometimes its hard to break a team down when they have 9 or 10 players in the penalty box defending.
